🌟Great reminder!🌟 It took me 7 years of pursuit before I landed my dream job at Disney (and lots of rejection in between 😳). Here I am, 16 years later and still lovin it at Disney. My 16 year Disney Anniversary as a Cast Member was March 20th!🥳 I was a temp for 6 months prior at Disney in the Casting dept, then the Safety dept, and then Public Relations, taking a $10 an hour pay cut but trusting the right opportunity will come open. And sure enough, it did! 🙌🏻 Dreams are never easy, but they are worth the hard work and relentless pursuit! I often get asked the question “How do you get a job with Disney?” The easy answer is, apply. And keep applying. The more thorough answer is, just keep collecting the skills, education and experiences needed for your dream job, stay positive, stay persistent, grow your connections, especially on LinkedIn, and trust the process. The occasion? Celebrating my four-year-old's birthday in the realms of Magic Kingdom and Epcot! It was amazing and exhausting! But beyond the fun, what struck me was the complexity of navigating the "optimal Disney experience." From mastering the app, to strategizing with Lightning Passes and ride schedules, it was a lesson in efficiency and decision-making. 🚀 Here's where it got fascinating for me as a career coach: This experience paralleled the job search process. Just like at Disney, having a guide in your career - someone who's been through it, who can offer best practices - can transform the journey. It makes it less stressful, more enjoyable, and far more efficient. With our friends who were Disney veterans, our adventure was not just enjoyable but made me think. ⭐️ The Walt Disney Company Skillbridge review ⭐️ Rating 3.0 / 5 Review by anonymous: Within Disney, as skillbridge, you are not an intern, nor are you a full cast member. You are a fellow. This makes a huge difference as you are not invited to participate in the same perks and cool things an intern gets to do, you are also not supplied with living arrangements, park passes, or anything else an intern gets to enjoy. Interns get paid, and also get free passes, while you will “work” for free, and have to beg for a park pass to actually enjoy seeing what you are working for. Sometimes, depending on your line of business, you might get to enjoy the park after hours, by yourself. This means you will get to walk around… This organization fails to understand the leadership qualities and amount of experience members who come in with 20 years of military service brings. I was assigned to a role where I spent most of my time “back stage” and spent a lot of time doing “meet and greets” with other hiring managers. I came in with the hope and anticipation that my experience as a senior enlisted member with experience as an Air Force first sergeant, squadron superintendent, and aviation specialist, with a bachelors degree in homeland security and infrastructure protection would translate easily into their security section, or a leadership position. Instead, I constantly got the “but you don’t have Disney experience” excuse. I walked in with my PMP, and other certifications with security experience, and all I got was an offer to either be a uniformed security guard, or a night shift mechanic. Each position paying less than $65K annually. The area directly around and within a comfortable driving distance from the parks requires an income of close to 95K just to survive. My direct leadership was incredible and extremely welcoming. They understood the need for me to meet with multiple people and explained my first job was to conduct meet and greets, and apply/interview for positions. After 4 months, I ultimately ended up applying for a job out of the state and accepted the position with a pay of $125K, conducting security and infrastructure protection. This was a great position to get to vacation in Florida for a couple months. But there wasn’t really any marketable skills gained from doing this position or growth of any known experiences from the military. In retrospect, I wish I would have tried to accomplish this with HoH, but their timeline didn’t match up with mine. I also know that everyone that did HoH was not selected for a role. If you want a chance at getting a low salary job in a really high cost of living area, this is the perfect skillbridge for you! It’s never their fault, there is always an excuse for everything? The Can Do people with no excuses get it done because they’re wired that way. You want to hire people who have a Can Do attitude. 3 - Passion - We wanted people who were passionate about what they were doing every single day without any complaints of the weather, the customers, the amount of hours they work. Hire people that want to work because they truly love what they do. They have passion for it. Passion is a higher level of something that is important to you. I have applied, and been rejected, to over 70 job postings with the The Walt Disney Company over the last few years. I have received exactly zero interviews. But that’s okay! I know that working for a dream company takes work. It takes dedication. And sometimes it takes a longer path than others. For now I will appreciate the experience I’m gaining at other top notch companies and earning my way to that *dream job*. I will also take in any advice and tips I see from Disney cast members on this platform such as Megan Lawson and Jason Recher. That’s what this place is for, right?? It’s okay to have some rejection. As in “some day” I will be the “Guy Who Rides On The Back Of The Tram And Reminds People Where They Parked At Disney World.”(GWROTBOTTARPWTPADW) I’m not really sure what the actual job title and responsibilities to be a GWROTBOTTARPWTPADW are or what skills and abilities are required but I’m pretty sure that I could be great at that job some day. I know Disney World. I can read the names and numbers in the parking lot. I also think I would like wearing reflective clothing. It seems to me the basic responsibilities are to: 1) Welcome People to Disney World, and 2) Remind them where they parked. THROUGH A MICROPHONE ON A TRAIN!!! How much fun would that be? I have spent my career as a professional communicator and as a senior level executive in charge of communications for large national organizations. This feels like it is RIGHT in my wheelhouse. I’m not ready quite yet, will be ready “some day” but if anyone out there is a recruiter for Walt Disney World, let me know.
