Diagnostic Radiographer | Radiology Quality Control & Assurance Officer | Masters in Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences (Candidate)
As a quality assurance officer in the radiology department I recently did this presentation for the Primary health doctors in Ekurhuleni. The presentation addressed some of the issues/misunderstandings that we’ve had, such as lack of justification and using x-rays to diagnose things that can be diagnosed using Ultrasound, which is less harmful to the patient. Such dialogues help improve interdepartmental relationships that must be maintained to continue optimal functionality of healthcare services. #radiography #radiationprotection

Senior Consultant Radiologist | AI-Driven Healthcare Innovator | Diagnostic Excellence | Educator & Strategic Advisor | Leader in High-Quality Radiology Services & Patient Care
Navigating Daily Challenges in Radiology: The Power of Teamwork and Communication In healthcare, attention to detail can make all the difference, especially in radiology. Recently, our MRI team showcased the importance of vigilance and clear communication. During a routine MRI safety screening, a technician identified an intracardiac loop monitor in a patient who had marked ‘no’ on all safety questionnaire items. Thanks to this quick action, the radiologist was informed and took the necessary steps to verify the implant’s safety and coordinates with the MR technician to tailor the sequences as per the manufacturer recommendations (conditional), ensuring a smooth and safe procedure for the patient. On the same day, the same technician discovered that an incomplete examination had been performed due to an incorrect CPT code selection by the referring physician. This situation highlights the critical role of direct communication between radiologists and technologists to ensure accurate and safe procedures. These examples emphasize the importance of fostering a culture of safety and open communication in our field. In a high-stakes environment, a few words of appreciation and recognition can turn a challenging workday around and drive us toward achieving bigger goals—even with financial constraints. Let’s continue to support each other, recognize the efforts of our teams, and strengthen communication to ensure the best patient care. #Healthcare #Radiology #MRISafety #Teamwork #StaffRecognition #PatientSafety #WorkplaceCommunication

I’m a Radiologist, Not a Magician: This is Ultrasound, Not Magic As a radiologist performing ultrasound scans daily, I often encounter some misconceptions about this amazing diagnostic tool: Instant Results: Many patients and clinicians expect immediate answers right after the scan, thinking we can instantly whip up a diagnosis. If only the machine handed us all the answers on a silver platter—we actually need to think and carefully interpret the findings! 🕵️♀️ Complete Diagnosis: Some believe ultrasound can identify every possible condition in one go. It’s good, but it’s not that good. Sometimes we need to dig deeper with other tests. Sorry, ultrasound isn’t all-seeing! 🔍 Reassurance: There’s a hope that a normal ultrasound means all is perfectly fine. I wish I could say that’s always true, but a normal scan doesn’t guarantee a clean bill of health. Shocking, I know! 😊 Universal Applicability: Some think ultrasound works like a magic wand for every part of the body. While it’s fantastic, there are still a few places that aren’t so ultrasound-friendly. Yes, those spots exist—who knew, right? 🤷♀️ Replacement for Clinical Judgment: A common myth is that ultrasound can replace a thorough clinical exam or medical history. Spoiler alert: nope, it can’t do everything! 🚫 Variable Complexity: Some cases are simple, others more complicated. Let us take the lead and figure that out—it’s what we do best! 🔬 And to my fellow radiologists out there, feel free to add any other common misconceptions I missed. Kudos to all of us for navigating these every day! 👇✌️✌️

One of our mottos is, "Accuracy in medicine is everything." Why? Because in medicine, not only in diagnostic practice, it is not difficult to make mistakes. Not all of them are avoidable, so minimizing the risk of them occurring is necessary. One of the ways to do this is by ensuring that the equipment you use is accurate. That is why we deliver Accurate Diagnostics for busy healthcare professionals. 🩺 Ensuring accurate quality control of diagnostic equipment not only leads to such obvious effects as fewer diagnostic errors and better detection of serious diseases. It also has other benefits, such as: 🔸 More time to treat patients as we don't have to deal with malfunctioning equipment. 🔹 Less exposure of patients to radiation. 🔸 Increased safety for medical staff. 🔹 Less time and money spent on equipment maintenance. All the above mean that, ultimately we get: 🏆 BETTER #HEALTHCARE. Want to know how to help improve the performance of your diagnostic equipment?
