Here's the hardest part for most high school stakeholders. In the past 2 hours since the news broke of Georgia's High School Athletic Association passing guidelines to permit NIL activities at the HS level, I've seen numerous posts by extremely reputable companies / individuals regarding how many states / associations permit NIL at the HS Level... Those posts have ranged from 30 - 34...(30 some states + DC)... But the "true" number could technically be up for interpretation (otherwise why aren't these all the same?) High School NIL is specific to the respective state association which permits it, and often, the interpretation of the bylaws / policies, or lack there of, has a lot of confusion around what is / isn't permitted within that respective state. Some state associations also include private schools, others don't... Some including middle school students, others don't. Some include activities as well as athletics, others dont. Every state association policy must be looked at with careful eye when high schools are figuring out how to best educate themselves & their stakeholders. It's not a one size fits all, and it should never be treated that way (IMO).... Additionally, I've had numerous conversations with individuals who think there are regulations in their state because they "saw it somewhere, and assumed every state had the same thing", but in actuality, it was the opposite. High School NIL policies are a lot to understand because EACH STATE ASSOCIATION GOVERNS ITSELF INDEPENDENTLY... And this isn't even taking into account potential state laws that may supersede (or impact) state association bylaws.... And all of this is why I'm so looking forward to talking through much of this tomorrow as I speak to OASSA - The Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators at their annual conference. If you're a school / association - let me know if I can be of service, here to help in any way! [email protected] | 419.306.3002 www.nil-education.com 👀 below to check out the guidelines passed today by Georgia's High School Athletic Association.... #NameImageLikeness #Highschoolathletics #highschoolsports #schooladministrators John Arnold

As a multi-year recipient of our Ecosystem grant, Education Evolving is radically rethinking how learning is designed to prepare students for a changing 21st-century world. They make education more relevant and equitable for students by centering WHO the student is, HOW they learn and WHERE they want to go in life. This approach is called student-centered learning, and we believe it prepares kids for greater success. Read more: https://bit.ly/3TrelaY

Another article about the impacts of legislation that restricts DEI in higher education dropped yesterday. This time, Aina Marzia has a piece out in The Nation examining the impacts of Texas SB 17 on student enrollment decisions. I think the passage early on focusing on "overcompliance" points to the heart of a lot of what I am seeing and understanding about these laws: there are often robust carveouts or exceptions for activities and offices, but attempts to ensure compliance are creating uneven chilling effects. (The article excerpts a joint statement from student organizations at UT Austin that provide the quote I am referencing, I've linked below.) Our first co-constructed Modified Exam Paper Case Study 1 - Katherine's story has been published on the Pearson Qualification Webpage with the support of colleagues from multiple teams, including Ben Redmond, Grace Grima, Hayley Dalton, Jo Biggers, Lesley Roberts, Louise Denman, Rachel Laking : https://lnkd.in/epwWvZwS. In January 2023, we interviewed “Katherine”, a remarkable Year 12 student. Inspired by Katherine’s powerful slogan - ‘we need to be our own advocate’ - we went on to collect more real-life stories of students with additional access requirements. In our case study, we incorporated Katherine’s perspective as a valuable insight into the various challenges and opportunities she faced while dealing with multiple exam boards. Furthermore, we provided suggestions from an awarding body’s standpoint for each of the specific challenges. Our aim is to offer a listening ear and support to students with SEND. By amplifying their voices, we want to raise awareness, inspire a collective effort, and really drive change to support an inclusive, accessible, and empowering educational environment. On Wednesday, 4th October, Kevin Mason and I are invited by the RNIB to present our Modified Exam Papers Project research findings at the Exam Update Session. We are prepared to present our work and gain knowledge from QTVIs. *We would like to acknowledge the important contribution towards the work in this case study from the school and our young student expert - Katherine, particularly their support in the Modified Exam Papers Research Project 2022-2023. *Please note that the student’s name has been changed to maintain confidentiality. #AccessibilityResearch #StudentVoice #CaseStudy #StudentwithVisonImpairments #RNIBExamUpdateSession #ModifiedExamPapers

Happy Monday! Here are this week's three things you need to know about higher education happenings in Washington: ⭐Senator Bill Cassidy Releases New Proposals to Modernize NIH U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, (R-LA), released a white paper proposing improvements to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The proposals include streamlining peer review processes and bolstering the biomedical workforce. Additionally, the paper calls for the reestablishment of the Scientific Management Review Board and improved oversight of extramural grants. The new rule requires all online content to be accessible for those with vision, hearing, cognitive, and manual dexterity disabilities. Universities must also ensure accessibility of PDFs for academic articles assigned to students by professors. Changes must be implemented by June 24, 2024. Specifically, the lawmakers expressed concerns that the Department of Education has not published the draft FAFSA for 2025-2026 for comment, which is normally done in February or March.
