Thinking about Australia Day in terms of product design - what is the job that Australia Day is supposed to be doing? It was conceived as something that unites people so fundamentally it is a dismal failure given it has almost 50% of people are now opposing it. TSA CONGRESS 2024: CHANGING FOR THE BETTER The Textile Services Association (TSA) 2024 National Congress, 1 February at the Titanic Hotel in Liverpool, got under way with the The Lord Mayor of Liverpool Councillor, Mary Rasmussen, opening proceedings. Charlie Betteridge, TSA chair, welcomed what amounts to a veritable ‘Who’s Who?’  of the top echelons of the laundry industry in the UK. “We have the format right seeing so many here. “Everybody is here,” he said. “All the key decision makers.   “I don’t think anyone would argue it has not been easy for the past few years. Life before was too easy. It was very good to us. The economy was being pumped up. We put up prices 1-2%. Profitability was up. We used more electricity, more hot water.   “Then it all changed: We have suffered the effects of Brexit, Covid, the Ukraine, war. For the first time we faced uncertainty. Everything was going wrong and we had to think on our feet. Last year was much better. 🤯 Single-use carpet at trade shows? 🤯 Events are temporary but carpet is not. Did you know trade show carpet is made from plastic? This year at ICSC in Las Vegas we created a 15,000 square foot, mega-booth for CBRE that broke the mold and ditched the carpet. How did we do it? 💡 1. We considered sustainability from the outset. 2. We designed a booth with all wires and cables hidden within modular structures. 3. We found a local company to clean and polish the venue's existing concrete floor until it sparkled. The saving? 🌎 + 💰 For planet: 15 tonnes of single-use material / 7 tonnes of CO2e. For budget: Many tens of thousands of US dollars! How was it received? 🏆 It was the talk of the show amongst organisers, exhibitors, and visitors with many commending CBRE for raising awareness of the issue and leading from the front. 👏 #sustainableevents #sustainabledesign #piefactory

You’ve heard the saying, “Seeing is believing”? Well, I recently witnessed the ultimate proof of this. A potential client visited our DESIGN GENIUS LLC office a few months ago, and their jaw dropped when they saw our latest project – a BBQ we'd crafted entirely in-house. The level of detail, precision, and craftsmanship was simply mind-blowing. From the initial digital design to the final product, every step was executed with meticulous care. The client was convinced it was imported. Can you believe it 🤣 ? This taught me something huge: we underestimate what we can make right here in Africa. Let's stop thinking 'imported equals better'. Let's build, support, and celebrate African businesses. Together, we can create amazing things This experience reaffirmed our belief in the power of local manufacturing. Africa is brimming with talent and innovation. Let's challenge the status quo and prove that world-class products can be born right here on our continent. #MadeInAfrica #AfricanInnovation #LocalManufacturing #DesignGenius
