It has been 8 years since the start of the "Make In India" Program under PM Modi. India improved its ranking in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Index, from 142nd in 2014 to 63rd in 2020 after the introduction of the program. Let's analyze 8 achievements of the Program under the Modi Govt. [1] Global Attraction: "Make In India" has been a magnet for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). From a substantial $45.15 billion in 2014-2015, FDI inflows soared to a record $83.6 billion in 2021-22. This remarkable growth is a testament to India's burgeoning appeal as a manufacturing hub. [2] Manufacturing Revolution: The initiative aimed to increase the manufacturing sector's contribution to GDP from 16% to 25% by 2022, creating 100 million additional jobs. While ambitious, these targets reflect the program's commitment to transforming India into a global manufacturing powerhouse. [3] Economic Reforms and Ease of Doing Business: India's journey towards economic reform has been pivotal in attracting FDI. The introduction of the National Single Window System (NSWS) and the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme are prime examples of efforts to streamline business operations and incentivize manufacturing. [4] Connecting India: The Prime Minister’s Gati Shakti programme for multimodal connectivity to manufacturing zones is another feather in the cap, ensuring logistical efficiency and infrastructural development. [5] Local to Global: The One-District-One-Product (ODOP) initiative highlights India's commitment to showcasing its diverse regional products on a global stage, contributing to socio-economic growth. [6] Sectoral Successes: From reducing toy imports by 70% to launching ambitious schemes in the semiconductor ecosystem, "Make In India" has made significant strides across various sectors. [7] Digital Inclusion - Through programs such as Digital India, the digitisation process has been augmented in the country. The procedure for taxation, company incorporation, etc. has been made online which eases the overall process and also improves efficiency [8] Self-Reliance in Defense Sector: A significant stride under the "Make In India" initiative has been the push towards Aatmanirbharta in the defense sector. The government's focus on indigenizing defense production has led to a substantial increase in domestic manufacturing of defense equipment. This shift not only reduces dependency on imports but also positions India as a potential exporter in the global defense market. Key policies encouraging domestic defense production include the increase in FDI limits and the introduction of the Defense Procurement Procedure (DPP), aimed at giving a boost to Indian defense manufacturers and attracting foreign investment in this sector. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will roll out the red carpet for hundreds of domestic and foreign investors visiting his home state of Gujarat & GIFT CITY this week for a business event, in one of his last major efforts to draw investments before a re-election bid. The Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit during Jan. 10-12 is expected to bring in around 100,000 visitors, including chief executives, business leaders, ministers and diplomats from 133 countries, in what organizers have dubbed as the biggest ever gathering at the biennial event which is in its 10th edition. For INFORMED Investment Decision in GIFTCITY, IFSC / SEZ and DTA for Office Spaces and Retail Spaces in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, Ahmedabad REACH us on +91 99255 82159 Ahead of the event, Gujarat signed initial investment pacts worth $120 billion with more than 200 companies, including steelmaker ArcelorMittal's local joint venture. Gujarat has attracted roughly $34 billion in foreign investments between 2019 and 2023, the third highest among states after Maharashtra - home to financial capital Mumbai - and Karnataka, whose capital Bengaluru is India's Silicon Valley. The list of foreign companies taking part include Microsoft (MSFT.O), Nasdaq (NDAQ.O), Alphabet's (GOOGL.O) Google, Suzuki (7269.T) and Toyota (7203.T). Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani, Asia's two richest people, and the chairman of salt-to-aviation conglomerate Tata Group, will be among the scores of top Indian executives in attendance. Foreign investors have bet big on India since Modi came to power in 2014 - with the likes of Apple (AAPL.O), Samsung (005930.KS), Kia (000270.KS) and Airbus (AIR.PA) expanding operations. For Modi and Gujarat officials, the summit will present a chance to attract investors to sectors such as chipmaking and electric vehicles manufacturing where India lags, with the prime minister set to hold closed-door meetings with many executives, state officials said. It will be one of Modi's last big attempts to assure investors about his business friendly policies and bolster India's reputation as an investment destination, just months before the 2024 national elections, where he will fight for a third term and is widely expected to win. U.S. companies "are factoring in that the current government will come back in power," said Mukesh Aghi, President of trade group U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum which is leading its biggest ever delegation of 50-plus U.S. firms to the Gujarat summit. Exploring ESOP Policies in India: Key Considerations Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs) have emerged as a powerful tool for companies to attract, retain, and incentivize top talent. In India's dynamic business landscape, understanding the nuances of ESOP policies is crucial for organizations looking to thrive. Let's delve into some key considerations: 1. Regulatory Framework: ESOPs in India are governed by various regulations such as the Companies Act, SEBI Guidelines, and Income Tax Act. Staying compliant with these regulations ensures smooth implementation and administration of ESOPs. 2. Eligibility Criteria: Defining eligibility criteria for employees to participate in ESOPs is essential. Factors such as tenure, role, and performance often influence eligibility, striking a balance between inclusivity and strategic alignment. 3. Vesting Period and Cliff: Determining the vesting period and cliff is pivotal. Vesting period refers to the duration an employee must work to gain ownership of the allotted shares, while a cliff sets the minimum service period before any shares can be vested. 4. Exercise Price and Valuation: Establishing a fair exercise price for ESOPs requires careful consideration. Conducting regular valuations and adhering to SEBI guidelines ensure transparency and equity in the process. 5. Tax Implications: Understanding the tax implications for both employers and employees is crucial. Taxation at the time of exercise and sale of shares, along with the impact of ESOPs on the company's tax liabilities, must be assessed comprehensively. 6. Communication and Education: Transparent communication and educating employees about ESOPs foster trust and engagement. Providing clear information on terms, benefits, and risks empowers employees to make informed decisions. 7. Exit Mechanisms: Designing effective exit mechanisms is vital to address scenarios such as employee resignation, termination, or company acquisition. Predefined procedures ensure fairness and mitigate potential conflicts. 8. Retention and Motivation: ESOPs serve as powerful tools for employee retention and motivation. Aligning ESOPs with the company's growth trajectory and fostering a culture of ownership enhances employee engagement and commitment. 9. Customization and Flexibility: Tailoring ESOP policies to suit the company's objectives and workforce dynamics is essential. Flexibility in plan design allows for adjustments based on evolving business needs and market conditions. 10. Legal and Financial Expertise: Seeking guidance from legal and financial experts is advisable to navigate the complexities of ESOP implementation. Professional advice ensures adherence to regulations and maximizes the benefits of ESOPs. #ESOP #TalentManagement #IndianBusiness #Innovation #InfinilexConsultancy
