🚨🚨 We WANT to hear from all different kinds of SOCIAL LISTENING TOOLS. If you're a social listening provider or if your platform analyses social data (even though you wouldn't want to use the term social listening to describe what you do) we want to hear from you. Social listeners, we're keen to hear what platforms you use, have been looking at, or heard of before. What's all of this for? We're currently working on a market landscape of the social intelligence industry (*we'll publish and promote this landscape so we want to see as many vendors as possible. Local ones, global ones - everyone). I'm tired of seeing all our solutions lumped together under "social analytics" or "social media measurement" in all the other tech landscapes (MarTech, ResTech, CommsTech). Our industry has matured, and solutions are fragmenting - we need better classifications. Not only will it help demonstrate the diversity of solutions in the industry and what the differentiation between categories is, it will also help buyers compare like for like solutions. I find myself often explaining what Social Listening is, which is not just sitting there and monitoring online conversations. The biggest marketing impact happens when you know the difference between proactive and reactive listening, which is often about recognizing patterns and asking the right questions in (online) conversations. Ever since I started working in this line of business and delved deeper to understand and explain the value of social listening, I've encountered multiple prejudices against social listening practice in general. Dr Jillian Ney explains them perfectly here and highlights the importance of utilizing people and time to understand the social context rather than metrics alone. In her words, 'How the culture in which we all operate and interact with impacts thoughts and behaviours'... exploring them, we can 'already advance our social listening practice' because it helps to understand the 'motives behind the communications, identify needs, and build a deeper knowledge around the organization of the people you serve and lives they live'.
