🇨🇦 Highlighting Our Employee Centric Culture I had the honour of taking the main stage at Retail Council of Canada RCC STORE 2024 Conference, where I sat down with Steve Worthy, MBA, Founder and CEO of Worthy Retail Global to highlight our culture of belonging at SEPHORA Canada. In case you missed it, here are a few takeaways from our conversation: 1. Culture doesn’t cascade from “the top”. Our 4,500+ people who work across all functions and in our stores bring this vibrant culture to life in all they do. 2. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion isn’t something we just “do” to check the box. It’s ingrained in how we approach our work, our client and employee experiences, and creating a space where everyone feels like they belong. 3. Macy's has never been a retailer without plans. Under both Terry Lundgren and Jeff Gennette there were plenty of initiatives. The problem was that very few of the ideas were executed well. Some, like Story, amounted to nothing. Meanwhile, the basics - those 101 retail fundamentals - were often neglected. So when Tony Spring recently took up the post of CEO, he inherited a retailer in need of change. Now to be fair, Tony has been quick to set out his stall - and high on the agenda is the improvement of Macy’s shops. Not just the way they look, but how ranges are curates, and how the stores operate. Macy’s will update 350 of its shops - the so called Go Forward group, which it sees as the future of the chain. Work has already started across 50 stores - known as the First 50. Today I am meeting Tony Spring and his colleagues to walk one or these modernized stores. I have been a critic of Macy’s store standards, so I am looking forward to seeing what the business is doing to put its best foot forward as it crafts what it is calling a “Bold New Chapter”. #retail #retailnews #departmentstores

Always good to hear 👂 what’s going on externally and in the broader retail environment, always a few little helpful nuggets. 💡Great to have some of the team attend Retail Week Live so we could divide and conquer the sessions and share learning. A team that goes together, grows together. 🌱 So important when talking to candidates to have an understanding of the wider industry and a good opportunity to be able to represent Specsavers as an employer. Almost every session on people, or those who included the people element their thinking 🧠 talked about understanding the individual and personalising their experience of work. Macy's Inc. is making some major changes to its leadership and operations in 2024. The department-store chain is laying off around 2,350 corporate staff members — 13% of its corporate workforce — and closing five locations in an attempt to streamline costs and refocus resources on enhancing the consumer shopping journey, The Wall Street Journal reported. Macy's overall workforce will see a 3.5% reduction, excluding seasonal hires, as the company looks to introduce more automation to its supply-chain operations and outsource some roles to third-party providers.
