Last week, our golfers enjoyed a great day on the golf course as we raised $100,000 in support of our public school students, teachers, and families! We are incredibly grateful for our sponsors and supporters who made this event possible. To view all the pictures from the event, visit: https://lnkd.in/geUw4Esd

Making giving easier to fight poverty and enrich lives in County Durham and the Tees Valley, empowering our #SmallButVital local charities and the communities they serve.
People often ask me to explain what a community foundation does. At its simplest, County Durham Community Foundation gets money in and then gets it out to the small, essential but all too often underfunded grassroot charities that are intimately connected to and trusted by their communities. Charities that do everything asked of them and more. Charities that rely on a few passionate staff, lots of volunteers and a 'well, we just have to...if not us, then who' mindset. This report from The Centre for Social Justice is short but brings together all too familiar stats to us. A few headlines: - 85 per cent of all charitable income in England and Wales goes to just 4 per cent of registered charities - average expenditure for small charities has risen by almost 12 per cent post-pandemic, compared with only a 3 per cent rise in income - the 10 biggest charities spend more on fundraising alone (£243 million) than the combined total income of over 75,000 smaller charities - 75 per cent of the sector’s total income flows to just 1 per cent of charities- charities in London receive up to 8 times more public funding than elsewhere in the country Sobering stats as we enter a new budget year, a year when I expect we will support near enough 600 small charities again in County Durham alone, all doing vital work. Thats a lot of small charities in just one part of the UK doing tough work that is getting tougher every single day. UK Community Foundations #enrichinglives #smallbutvital

Local charities have a big impact on their communities. These grassroots groups are embedded in their communities, having an intimate understanding of local issues and tailoring their efforts to address specific community needs. They are trusted by local people and can get to the root of problems more effectively, fostering genuine, long-term change. Despite this, local charities frequently receive less attention and funding than their national counterparts, which often capture the lion's share of public and corporate support. Each year, we work with over 500 local charities. As a Community Foundation, our role within Norfolk is to ensure that these grassroots groups receive the vital funding they need to make a difference in individuals' lives. We understand the crucial roles which local charities play and are pleased that The Centre for Social Justice is drawing attention to the funding challenges facing small charities. Their new report, ‘Underfunded and Overlooked’, highlights some concerning statistics that resonate with our experiences: 📈Post-pandemic, average expenditure for small charities has increased by nearly 12%, while income has only risen by 3%. 📌75% of the sector’s total income is received by just 1% of charities, with London-based charities receiving up to eight times more public funding than those elsewhere. 🪙85% of all charitable income in England and Wales is concentrated in just 4% of registered charities. 🪣The 10 largest charities spend more on fundraising alone (£243 million) than the combined total income of over 75,000 smaller charities. At Norfolk Community Foundation, we are committed to helping small charities overcome these funding challenges. We want to ensure local charities have the support they need to continue their invaluable work. Thank you to everyone who supports our mission and helps make a difference in Norfolk. #ShineBrighter #Norfolk #Charity
