👉 Did you know that 64 countries across the world are expected to hold national elections in 2024? That's big news but let's not forget the number and power of local elections, which often take place in odd years, especially in the U.S. The Ascend Fund is a collaborative fund dedicated to accelerating the pace of change toward gender parity in U.S. politics. Since 2020, the fund's partners have trained 78,000+ women, contributing to a more than 10% increase in women serving in office over this period. Read more about The Ascend Fund in its 2023 Impact Report and learn how you can support efforts to invest in women's political leadership. https://bit.ly/48U5eUw

Empowering 1st generation wealth-builders to make smarter money decisions through real-life advice | Co-Founder | National Speaker | Momx2
Last year, I was on a women's leadership retreat in Alaska. Aside from the amazing views and adventures, we also did an activity around defining our identity. We picked from a number of images that resonated with us, narrowed them down, and then described what they meant to us. People assumed I'd pick the piggy bank as a sign of money because of what I do for a living. However, I explained that didn't resonate with me because money isn't my end goal. It's a means to an end. A tool to be used. I show my clients the same thing. When we work together you know EXACTLY how much to be investing and where. No more wasting time or energy second-guessing your decisions. This recent NYT article discusses the "glass cliff effect" (https://nyti.ms/3ScHGEL) and highlights how women and people of color are often appointed as "crisis people", ready to handle delicate and challenging situations. Christy Glass, a sociology professor at Utah State University, notes that "...we’re giving them this one shot that is high risk, and if they fail or are perceived to fail, they’re gone. The risk of crashing and burning is high." BMP’s frequently referenced Race to Lead report, "Trading Glass Ceilings for Glass Cliffs," provides direction and recommendations on how funders, interim EDs/CEOs, capacity builders, board members, and current organizational leaders can avoid setting leaders up for the "glass cliff" and better support incoming nonprofit executives of color. Read BMP’s Glass Ceilings report here and let us know what you think: https://bit.ly/3zGQvAh Stay tuned for BMP’s next Race to Lead report on DEI's positive impact on nonprofits, which will be released later this month.

"As White-founded organizational leadership transitions out of what has more often than not been blatantly unexamined and relatively ungoverned roles in organizations, often on the brink of collapse, incoming Black women leaders are discovering that now there will be not only governance but obstructive, extreme oversight, micromanagement, unreasonable expectations, territorialism, mistrust, little to no support, lack of basic decency and humanity, and the list continues—sometimes from the board, sometimes from the staff, and sometimes from both…and that’s just internally. Externally, there is also misbehavior from funders and from other leaders. There is no place allowed, it seems, to breathe; to rest; to grow; to make mistakes, learn, and recalibrate; to be. The sector, as a number of leaders describe in this edition, is perpetrating death by a thousand cuts."
