Happy Saturday ☕️ Great article . 🤓 However, here’s another myth not mentioned … “ Skilled Home Care services cannot be provided while hospice or palliative care are in the home .” That is a MYTH not mentioned . Here’s an explanation that can hopefully serve you or a loved one. 🙏 -————— Understanding Hospice vs. Palliative Care: Key Differences ✨ In the realm of healthcare, particularly for those facing serious illnesses, the terms "hospice" and "palliative care" often arise. While they share similarities, they serve distinct purposes: 🌟 Palliative Care: - Focuses on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of a serious illness. - Can be provided at any stage of illness, alongside curative treatments. - Aims to improve the quality of life for both the patient and their family. - Involves a multidisciplinary team approach, addressing physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. 🏥 Hospice Care: - Specifically designed for individuals in the final stages of life, typically when curative treatment is no longer pursued. - Prioritizes comfort and quality of life during the last months, weeks, or days. - Also involves a team approach, but with a stronger emphasis on end-of-life care. 🏠 Skilled Home Care Visits: Skilled home care can complement both hospice and palliative care by providing medical support and assistance in the comfort of the patient’s home. This includes: - Administering medications and therapies. - Monitoring vital signs and managing symptoms. - Offering emotional support and education to the patient and their family. By understanding these differences and the role of skilled home care, we can better support individuals and families navigating serious health challenges. 💜 #HospiceCare #PalliativeCare #HomeCare #Healthcare #PatientSupport #Skilledservice #RoadsCulture

Palliative care vs Hospice care The goal of palliative care is to improve the quality of life for individuals at any stage of serious illness, whether curable, chronic and life-limiting whereas Hospice care is a subset of palliative care that provides comfort at the end -of- life. Palliative care can be provided alongside curative or life-threatening treatment while hospice care is provided when there is no cure in place. Hospice care patients may no longer have therapeutic options or may have chosen not to continue treatment because side effects outweigh benefits. The hospice care team provides care for the “whole person” including physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. Palliative care family support and collaboration is paramount in deciding where care should be provided either in the home, hospital or hospice facilities.
