Pleased to announce that I have returned to work from Mat Leave! 🍼 Wow, I don’t think anyone can prepare you for the roller coaster of emotions when you first return to work and drop your child off at daycare. You feel strange, as though someone has just removed your right arm from its socket, suddenly there’s an empty feeling where that right arm had been - wild analogy but quite frankly, the best way I can explain it. I feel lucky to work for Guardian and as part of the Talent Team at that, so I know we genuinely do care that all our Early Childhood Professionals are top quality and want the best for every child they care for. I feel that alone gives me the reassurance that my son is well cared for and that helps an awful lot but still, the parent guilt is REAL. I am happy to be working again, it’s given me some much-needed independence and connecting with colleagues and candidates is lovely. I’m lucky to work for a company full of working Mums and Dads that truly understand it will take time to adjust to this new journey as a working parent. But still, I miss my little boy. Anyway, this is just a post to remind myself and other working parents/carers that it’s ok to feel emotional, unsure and anxious when returning to work. It’s natural. Having the right support around you makes a huge difference. (Hint, hint… one of the many reasons to join Guardian - had to get a recruitment line in here somewhere). Here’s a censored picture of my “sun” ready for his first day! Sending love and support to all the working parents out there ❤️ #returntowork #workingmum #workingparents #supportiveworkplace #earlychildhood #guardian #matleave

More dads need to take paternity leave and do it with pride like Matt Swenson When more men, especially men in senior positions, take paternity leave, talk about it openly as something they are enjoying and looking forward to, it normalizes paternity leave for many men who have the option available from their employer but hesitate to take advantage of it. When more men take paternity leave, it also normalizes women’s maternity leave. I know, I know…maternity leave is not a new thing. But the stress involved with taking it remains real for many women. Not all work environments are supportive of maternity leave and negative repercussions for women’s careers are a data based reality. Babies need to be taken care of, both parents should be able to spend time with their babies and any kind of parental leave should be an accepted and encouraged part of any healthy society. It’s really that simple!! #women #femaleleadership #maternityleave #paternityleave
Sara Swenson is back to the office today after three months of maternity leave with our sweet Sophia. We are SO proud of Mama and can’t wait to welcome her home tonight after her first day back at work. In life and parenting, I’m proud we’re partners in every sense of the word. So as Sara’s shift ends, mine begins. Today marks my first official day of paternity leave. I’m thrilled to have this special time with our precious little one and glad I’ll also get to spend it with her older sister Olivia (2). I’m grateful Sara and I work for companies that strongly support working families and prioritize this important time away. And I’m thankful for my many Cargill colleagues who have so generously shared their excitement for our family and continue to offer their support while I’m out. In short, I’m feeling incredibly blessed today — for a smart, hard-working, caring wife and partner; an outstanding mother to our two sweet, beautiful daughters; a fulfilling career; and the opportunity to work for a company that truly cares about my family. I couldn’t dream of asking for anything more.

At pladis, we recognise that our colleagues are more than just employees – they are parents, guardians, carers and much more. We understand the importance of supporting our team through life’s transitions. That’s why we’re thrilled to share that we have embarked on the roll out of a global support package for the transitional moments of parenthood. Over the next 12 months, colleagues from across the 20 countries in which we operate, will have access to a comprehensive package of support, tailored to local market legislation, that empowers them with the time and space to adjust and thrive to life as a parent. This includes: ⭐ A minimum of 36 weeks leave for main carers to focus on caring for their new family member after the birth or adoption of a child – with half of this leave fully paid. ⭐ Support that includes keeping in touch days and a paid phased return schedule for the main carer. ⭐ Secondary carers receive four weeks of paid leave and a phased return schedule to support their expanding family during the critical early days. ⭐ A carefully focused package to support premature birth. ⭐ Focused parental support for child loss. Geraldine Fraser, Chief Human Relations Officer, shared her pride in this investment. “We stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our colleagues and their families during these life-changing moments. Striving to be an employer of choice for women and parents, we’re creating a happy and inclusive workplace for all our colleagues.” #ParentalSupport #InclusiveWorkplace #FamilyFirst #EmployerOfChoice

Children and young people in care and care leavers might find summer holidays particularly challenging for several reasons Family Visibility: Summer often involves family activities and gatherings Seeing other families enjoying their time together can highlight their own absence of an 'ideal' stable family unit which can be painful and isolating Lack of Stability: The summer break might disrupt routines and stability For young people in care who may already experience instability in their living situations the change in routine can add to their stress and feelings of uncertainty Social Comparisons: They may feel different from their peers who are spending time with their families This can lead to feelings of inadequacy or exclusion especially if they feel they do not fit into the typical family model Emotional Impact: The focus on family during holidays can amplify feelings of loss or abandonment If they have experienced trauma or instability in their family life these feelings might be more pronounced during times that emphasise family togetherness Pressure to Conform: There might be societal pressures to conform to a particular idea of what a happy family looks like This can make young people in care feel like they are missing out or not measuring up Unstructured Time: Summer often means more free time and less structured activities For young people who have experienced trauma or instability unstructured time can sometimes lead to increased anxiety or loneliness Financial Strain: For those who have recently left care and are on their own the financial strain of summer activities and the cost of things like holidays can be a significant burden Support from caregivers mentors or social workers can help by providing stability creating alternative enjoyable activities and fostering connections that help mitigate feelings of exclusion or inadequacy #MTICBIAI #MyTraumaIsChronicButIAmIconic #ChildrensCare #YoungPeopleInCare #CareLeavers #SummerHolidays #EmotionalWellbeing #FamilyDynamics #SupportForCareLeavers #InclusiveCelebrations #CommunitySupport #PositiveRoleModels #MentalHealthAwareness #YouthSupport #CareSystem #EmotionalHealth #HolidayChallenges

🌟 Celebrating 6 Months of Maternity Leave 🌟 This week marks a significant milestone in my life - 6 months of being on maternity leave. Becoming a mother has been the biggest promotion in my career, one that has brought unparalleled joy, challenges, and growth. There is no orientation or training that can fully prepare you for the journey of motherhood. It's a role that constantly evolves, demanding self-motivation, patience, and unwavering kindness to oneself. Being a mother has taught me more about myself than any job ever could. My daughter, River, has been my greatest teacher in these almost 6 months. The lessons she has imparted on me are priceless and will never be lost. Maternity leave is often underrated in a working mother's journey, sometimes relegated to a mere holiday. But the internal work done mentally and emotionally during this period is profound and transformative. The responsibility of caring for and focusing on a young child is the most important role of anyone's career. It's a role that requires dedication, resilience, and endless love. Let's not forget to acknowledge and celebrate the incredible work that mothers do during maternity leave. It's a time that shapes us, strengthens us, and prepares us for the challenges and joys that lie ahead. Here's to all the amazing mothers out there, navigating the beautiful chaos of motherhood with grace and resilience. Cheers to the journey of motherhood and the immeasurable value it brings to our lives. 🌸 #Motherhood #MaternityLeave #WorkingMom #CelebratingMotherhood
