Primary care physicians in rural settings are confronted with unique challenges related to infant feeding practices, particularly concerning prevalent cultural beliefs. A study on 'Breastfeeding practices in Pakistan' highlighted a myth related to breastmilk in rural settings: It is not uncommon for families to delay breastfeeding initiation due to the misconception that colostrum, the initial breast milk produced after birth, is stale. This misunderstanding stems from low literacy levels and entrenched societal norms. As trusted healthcare providers in these communities, it is imperative for primary care physicians to address these misconceptions, educate families about the importance of early breastfeeding, and debunk harmful myths to ensure optimal infant nutrition and health. #breastfeeding #infanthealth #infantnutrition #childhealth #medicine #obstetrics #primaryhealthcare #primarycarephysician #colostrum #infantcare #childnutrition #ruralhealthcare #ruralhealth #pakistan #healthcareeducation #maternalhealth #postpartumsupport #childcare

Sterilising feeding equipment – a brand new guide in our infant feeding category https://lnkd.in/e9x5T2jn The author of this brand-new, fully illustrated guide is Zoe Meakin, Specialist Midwife and Tongue-tie Practitioner, Colchester Hospital. It has undergone double-blind peer review. Sterilising kills the majority of harmful bacteria, and it is important to sterilise all feeding equipment appropriately to protect babies from infections. The NHS recommends sterilising all equipment that is used for collecting, storing or feeding expressed breast milk or formula milk for babies under 12 months, as well as pacifiers (dummies) and any other items that a baby may put in their mouth. This guide describes different methods of sterilisation using cold water, boiled water, and steam, as well as microwave and ultraviolet sterilisation. Some parents may prefer one method to another. A competency checklist accompanies the guide. This can be used to assist with staff training and assessment. You can download the checklist using a button immediately above the guide, or view it online below the guide itself. #paediatrics #baby #breastfeeding #nursing

We are excited to shed light on a cornerstone of our efforts: the weekly Maternal Child Health and Nutrition (MCHN) Day at Nand Ghar. This day is our dedicated time to support the health and well-being of women and children throughout our neighbourhoods. So, what exactly happens on this day? Every week, our team of healthcare professionals and community advocates come together to deliver vital services in villages. From prenatal care to nutritional guidance, we have a comprehensive range of support available. Our diligent Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) begin by strategising the day's activities based on the needs of our community. Meanwhile, our committed Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) ensure that everyone is informed and ready to participate in MCHN Day. Once the day is underway, we prioritise thorough health assessments for expecting mothers. From height and weight measurements to blood pressure checks, we leave no stone unturned in ensuring maternal well-being. Should any concerns arise, rest assured that we're here to provide prompt assistance and referrals as needed. But our focus isn't solely on expectant mothers – we are equally dedicated to the health of our little ones. That's why we administer essential vaccinations, safeguarding them against preventable illnesses. When it comes to nutrition, we offer tailored advice to promote optimal growth and development. Recognising the importance of early intervention, we remain vigilant for signs of malnutrition among children. For those in need, we provide additional support in the form of supplementary rations, ensuring no child is left behind in their journey towards good health. Beyond medical interventions, MCHN Day serves as a platform for community engagement and education. Whether discussing safety measures or sharing insights on balanced nutrition, we are committed to fostering a culture of health and well-being in our neighbourhoods. At Nand Ghar, we firmly believe that empowering women and children is crucial for building resilient communities. By prioritising their health and offering accessible, comprehensive care, we strive to make a lasting impact on the lives of those we serve. #NationalSafeMotherhoodDay #MCHNDay #MaternalHealth #Motherhood #SafeMotherhood #ChildHealth #HealthForAll #HealthcareAccess

When asked what barriers exist to promote SAFE and QUALITY oral feedings in the NICU, respondents to a recent Dr. Brown’s Medical survey reported: ❌Use of NIPPLE FLOW RATES that are TOO FAST (59%) ❌Use of NIPPLES that are UNRELIABLE & INCONSISTENT (55%) Offering a faster flow when a slower flow rate is indicated can comprise swallowing safety. Consistency is important for preterm or hospitalized infants as they learn the complex skill of feeding. Dr. Brown’s Medical provides THREE slow-flow nipples that are quality-tested and quality-assured. Research reveals Dr. Brown’s nipples have a low coefficient of variation = they are consistent and reliable. ⏰Time to follow the evidence. I've gifted this article that applies not only to children but also for the elderly or anyone with mobility difficulties such as Parkinsons. "Part of the danger is the nature of soup itself. Boiling water is hot enough to scald skin. But salt, oil, and other ingredients raise water’s boiling point, meaning that soup can reach a much higher temperature and cause greater injury, Gallagher said. Soup also stays hotter for longer, prolonging the potential for harm: A 2007 study found that certain soups took more time to cool than tap water after being boiled. Even when slightly cooled, to about 150 degrees Fahrenheit, it can cause “a significant scald burn,” one commentary noted. ... For these reasons, perhaps the most dangerous soup of all is instant noodle soup. Nearly 2,000 American kids get burned by it annually, according to one estimate; in an analysis published earlier this year, this kind of soup caused 31 percent of pediatric scalds in a Chicago hospital over a decade. These products are dangerous for reasons beyond their contents. They tend to be packaged in tall, flimsy containers that are perilously easy to topple. Microwaveable versions can be dangerous for kids who haven’t yet fully grasped that a room-temperature product, heated for several minutes in a microwave, can come out piping hot. “Fluids like that can be superheated such that when you touch them, there’s almost like a mini explosion,” splashing boiling liquid onto skin, Gallagher explained." #childcare #eldercare #elderlysupport #childnutrition #foodandbeverageindustry #food #mealplanning #eatingwell #technology #mobilitymatters #disabilitycare #disabilitysupport #caregiver #caregiving #caregivingtips https://lnkd.in/eMtn3A4D
