So True!!! There is a checklist on paper and then there is a checklist in our heads! Scheduling work events, planning weekly school tasks, find time for workouts, meal planning, home tasks, parent's caregiving and more - We built Fhynix to help organize this invisible workload with notes, reminders, planners and a color-coded calendar for families ! www.fhynix.com

Summertime with school aged children are not all sunshine and popscicle moments when you are a villageless working mother/parent. Local sitters are not reliable, the P&R camp is not the safest option and a logistical nightmare if weather conditions are against the day, and kids may be too old for daycare program spots. So you hope the abundant screen time doesnt set them back and cause detriment to the “fun days” of THEIR break.

I really empathize with working mothers. When I was a kid in the 1950s, my public school would be open every weekday for various activities that were supervised, entirely voluntary. This is where I learned to be a ping pong champ. LOL I was there every day. These days if I were a parent I would be afraid to let my grammar school aged child walk the two very long city blocks to my school in Queens. But those free activities do not eixst anymore I don't think.

It is a stressful time of year for sure. And not to mention, expensive. The camp spreadsheet starts in November - yes November and the good camps are full by Christmas. It take a ton of planning and money to assure you have childcare all summer. And even then, some weeks you have coverage 8-2 and others 9-4 which makes balancing your schedule tough too.

This is such a stressful aspect of parenting. Where I live, camps start filling up in February, sometimes minutes after registration opens. If employers or politicians would create solutions for families, it would be game changing for families.

Great tips, The Mom Project. This is one reason why we tell our Career Relaunch students that when job-seeking, they are interviewing too. Flexible workplaces make all the difference, especially in the gauntlet of Summer.

It is the most stressful time of year, trying to cobble together whatever camps we can get into, remembering the schedules and adjusting to all of the transitions. To top it off, we've had 4 missed camp days this past week due to poison ivy. 🙃
