I LOVE food rescue. To me it's a perfect business solution to 3 problems. 😠 Hunger. I hate being hungry. No one should be hungry. 🗑 Waste. Throwing useful stuff away infuriates me (especially with food, which takes a ton of effort to produce in the first place!). ⛽ Energy. Food is fuel. If the whole community is fueled with the right kind of energy...imagine how much better off we all would be. That's why I love it when teams like The Open Door and Second Harvest Heartland connect food to families. What's one of your favorite business solutions that solves multiple problems at once?
We're breaking records all over the place—all thanks to donations from local stores and the tireless work of our many food rescue and warehouse volunteers! 👏Give yourselves a hand!

Right now – until 12pm Thursday 22 August – EthicalJobs.com.au is matching your donations to Council of Single Mothers and their Children (CSMC). When single mother families in crisis need support, they contact CSMC. Our support workers assist single mother families with expert support, advice, and information, when they need it the most. With the cost-of-living hitting even average families, the children in low income families are really missing out. Single mothers are doing all they can to protect their children, but the kids still feel the hunger and the cold – and the responsibility to try and hid expenses from their mum. CSMC provides expert specialist support, with the unique addition of having lived experience of being single mothers. They are trusted; they are experts; they are a safe place for single mothers to turn. Funds are urgently needed for emergency relief to assist single mothers to feed their children and maintain their housing. So please, if you are considering donating to a charity that supports families in need, now is the time to do it. https://lnkd.in/gbei5CG5

I’ve witnessed hunger. I’ve helped children sneak bags of food home in their backpacks for the weekend because it was a possibility they would go days without being fed. I’ve worried with other teachers about children going hungry during the weekends and on school breaks. I’ve watched children cry because they didn’t want to go home knowing they didn’t know when they would eat next. Children should never have to worry about food shortage and I believe it is our responsibility to do everything in our power to help. Though many of us may not realize the grave disparities that exist in our own communities, people face hunger in every county and congressional district in Indiana and beyond. They could be our neighbors, kids in our children's classes – the possibilities go on. In Indiana, 950,220 people are facing hunger - and of them 285,070 are children. 1 in 7 people in Indiana faces hunger 1 in 5 children in Bartholomew County faces hunger 42% of children in Bartholomew County qualify for free or reduced lunch… 50% of Flat-Rock Hawcreek quality 52% of Jackson County qualify 66% of Jennings County qualify “As pandemic programs ended and prices for household expenses (including food) rose, food insecurity levels have also risen,” according to Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap 2024 report. “…Food insecurity is a symptom of historical and structural oppression, not individual weakness. It does not exist in a vacuum: people who face challenges accessing enough food also face challenges affording adequate housing, healthcare, transportation and other basic needs.” #hungeractionmonth
🧡 September is #HungerActionMonth, and the Feeding America network is calling on everyone to take one million actions against hunger! 🧡 Throughout the month, we'll share stories, newly available data, and ways to get involved in the movement to end hunger.
