Tomorrow is LGBTQIA+ Equal Pay Awareness Day — a day designated to highlight the discrimination faced by the LGBTQIA+ community. This illustration is just an example of the many microaggressions LGBTQ+ women face in the workplace. More than any other group of women, LGBTQ+ women feel the need to hide important parts of their identities to fit in at work. They are 2.25x more likely to feel pressure to change their appearance to be perceived as more professional. They are also more likely to self-shield or self-monitor—continuously modifying their behaviors— to avoid or protect themselves from mistreatment, making it harder to bring their authentic self to work. It’s on us to ensure our LGBTQ+ colleagues feel safe at work. Proud to share my learnings on effective CSR communication at the Sustainability Leadership Training Program. When it comes to owning a topic like equality and inclusion, clear, authentic messaging is key. The rainbow movement has gained significant momentum in recent years - an important societal shift that forward-thinking SMEs should thoughtfully consider how to authentically embrace. There are certainly nuances to navigate, but the opportunity to demonstrate values-driven leadership on issues like LGBTQ+ equality is compelling. #SMESS #SustainableLeadership #CorporateCommunications

As advocates for corporate social responsibility with a diverse team, we strive for justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion because they're essential values. However, effectively communicating these values can be challenging for companies particularly during LGBTQ+ Pride Month when companies unveil rainbow-themed products and rebranding efforts. The phenomenon of "rainbow washing" has led to skepticism towards brands that seem to capitalize on the LGBTQ+ community, often resulting in fumbled Pride messaging or misaligned values. To ensure authenticity and alignment, our team uses 4 strategies to avoid rainbow washing, not only during Pride Month but every month: https://loom.ly/RaZ7KC4

Women - Are you looking for a board position? Here's a great opportunity in Washington DC. Research shows that diversity at the top makes a huge difference to an organization's quality and outcomes. Yet it remains challenging for minorities to be in the right conversations and experiences to gain these valuable opportunity. Here's a great program - run by the amazing Monica Eboda, MBA, CSP and Alison Greenhouse to help women find opportunities in the boardroom. I've known both Monica and Alison as faculty and facilitators of our Women's Leadership Initiative at UD leadership programs, and continue to be inspired by how they both personally engage opportunities. So if board service is in your future, here's a great opportunity to do so. #womensleadership; #womenonboard; #diversity; #DEI;
Despite abundant evidence that corporations with diverse boards outperform those with less diversity on their boards, the sad fact is that corporate boards remain startlingly homogenous. Fortune 1000 Boardrooms are below 30% women, less than 11% Black Americans, Hispanic and Latinx, and Asian, and around 12% LGBTQ. We strongly encourage boards to actively seek a more varied slate of candidates and evaluate their process and culture to be inclusive of differing perspectives. #boarddiversity #corporateboards #boardselectionprocess #executivecoaching #boardculture
