"Once a little girl from Small Heath who worked behind the till at her parents’ corner shop [and] never dared to dream she would be sitting before you today, counted among the holders of this role" - Congratulations to Shabana Mahmood, who has been sworn in as the first female Muslim lord chancellor. Yesterday was historic for multiple reasons, as it also marked the first time that a lady chief justice swore in a female lord chancellor ⚖️ Shabana is pictured with our president, Nick Emmerson, who said it was a "privilege" to speak at the historic ceremony on behalf of the solicitor profession. We look forward to working with Shabana as we continue to advocate for the legal profession and a strong justice system.

What an achievment! Congratulations madam Shabana Mahmood. I dedicate this to you. Still I Rise BY MAYA ANGELOU You may write me down in history With your bitter, twisted lies, You may trod me in the very dirt But still, like dust, I'll rise. Does my sassiness upset you? Why are you beset with gloom? ’Cause I walk like I've got oil wells Pumping in my living room. Just like moons and like suns, With the certainty of tides, Just like hopes springing high, Still I'll rise. Did you want to see me broken? Bowed head and lowered eyes? Shoulders falling down like teardrops, Weakened by my soulful cries? Does my haughtiness offend you? Don't you take it awful hard ’Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines Diggin’ in my own backyard. You may shoot me with your words, You may cut me with your eyes, You may kill me with your hatefulness, But still, like air, I’ll rise. Does my sexiness upset you? Does it come as a surprise That I dance like I've got diamonds At the meeting of my thighs? Out of the huts of history’s shame I rise Up from a past that’s rooted in pain I rise I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide, Welling and swelling I bear in the tide. Leaving behind nights of terror and fear I rise.......👏 🙌

Well done and congratulations... I strongly believe you are lucky than talented because with your colour of skin it is not possible to have equal opportunities in life. I am the best person to defend my words because I have three daughters and two of them are prodigies but they are not getting equal space in any where in society. God forbid, their talent will go down the drain one day and they will not reach where they deserve! Miss Shabana you know, why you are chosen! But the fact is you are part of the system, please do something for the disparity I am talking about..

This is amazing, and having grown up in Small Heath myself, I also feel a massive sense of pride because it was always looked down on and still is. Nobody thinks about the determination and strength of the people who live in this small area of Birmingham to succeed. Shabana, you are an inspiration to many. May you have a long, fulfilling and prosperous career 👏

A beautiful story telling approach. Congratulations!

Congratulations. Allah has blessed you with honour, prestige and above all responsibility. Staying true to your roots will be amongst the biggest challenges you will face. Please don’t become one of those ministers whose first job is to disown their own and we have had far too many of those in recent years. The stories and journey that you narrate only have any meaning and resonance if your continue to remember who you are and who supported you to get you here. May the almighty guide you to assist those most in need. May he guide you to be a voice for the voiceless, the oppressed and downtrodden. There is no one in need of a voice and advocacy greater than the Palestinians.

Huge congratulations! I love the fact that so many of us helped our parents/ families in their businesses which actually helped and gave us all the fortitude to persevere and make more of ourselves. I often wonder if our parents had the opportunities we had, how much more they might have achieved and then in turn would we have reached even greater success, if that’s possible?😀🙏
