🌍 Celebrating Girls’ Vision for the Future – Key Takeaways from Our X Space on International Day of the Girl Child 🌟 On October 11th, we were honored to collaborate with Rising to Greatness Organization to host an inspiring X Space, where voices of change came together to discuss the future of girls worldwide. With over 200 listeners engaged, our conversation focused on the empowerment, education and rights of girls, with thought leaders sharing actionable insights to create lasting impact. Key Highlights ✅ Access to Education: It is clear that education remains the cornerstone for empowering girls. We discussed ways to prevent school dropout, support teen mothers and ensure financial accessibility for all girls. ✅ Legal Protections: Strengthening laws against child marriage, FGM and online abuse is essential. We need stronger legal frameworks to ensure girls' safety and rights. ✅ Community Engagement: Mentorship and community involvement are crucial. We can make a real difference by offering emotional support, mentorship, and safe spaces for girls to thrive. Let’s continue to amplify girls' voices, break down barriers, and ensure every girl has the tools to build her future. 💪

How do we cultivate community diligently working toward collective liberation? 🤔 Open Horizon has been exploring ways to better support Black women and Black gender-expansive leaders in the nonprofit sector and specifically in its foundational programming. After Open Horizon’s Executive Director, D'Lynn Jacobs, participated in a funders call facilitated by Dr. Yanique Redwood , she gained deeper insight into what could be done and who was already doing this important work. A strong connection was formed when D’Lynn met Aaron Goggans, the Dream Gardener of WildSeed Society. Their mutual commitment to #healingjustice and #liberation sparked a powerful reminder for Open Horizon of the importance of interconnection and reciprocity across organizations and individuals in philanthropy, movement and organizing work. As D’Lynn learned more about Wildseed's mission and vision, she was thrilled to find parallels in values across an ecosystem approach to change. The WildSeed Society envisions a world where everyone’s needs are met with dignity and joy—a vision that Open Horizon proudly supports. Shame on Cumberland Council! Queer people exist. Same-sex parents exist. Trans, gender diverse and nonbinary people exist. We. Are. Not. An. Issue. The only issue with our existence is that we have to keep defending our rights to exist. Last week, Cumberland Council, passed a motion that continues to set set a precident, and feed and perpetuate the unnecessary fear and ignorant misinformation of the LGBTQ+ community. Further, this action continues to jeopardise the safety of rainbow families and any future coexistence of our public communities. They passed an amendment to the Library Strategy 2024-2027 that bans books featuring same-sex parents from our public libraries. "This crosses a dangerous line. Our area welcomes people of all backgrounds and beliefs, we’re not about banning books just because someone does not like who is in them." Sign the petition here, and please share widely. https://lnkd.in/gwHaWd-X #LGBTQ+ #Sydney #RainbowFamilies #Diversity #Inclusion #Equality #Equity #EqualRights #HumanRights ##Discrimination #lgbtqbooks #lgbtqcommunity Equality Australia Rainbow Families

Executive Director | Founder | Seattle Sports Commissioner | Keynote Speaker | Hazel Miller BoD | WA Commercial Aviation Work Group member | Civic Engagement Consultant | Convener
While taking some downtime before my next adventure (still coming soon), I planted a seed with a handful of community leaders, not knowing it would start to immediately sprout. The seed: How do we address the civic engagement desert in our smaller, northern communities as well as pool resources for greater reach? With continued population growth in counties north of Seattle (Snohomish, Island, Skagit, Kitsap, and Whatcom), opportunities for civic engagement BEYOND POLITICS also needs to grow. As the need for civic engagement and civil discourse increases, so does the need for organizations to provide these opportunities. NorthwestWA Civic Circle (NWCC) aims to be the nonpartisan hub for groups large and small to work collaboratively on their respective missions. Let's address the civic engagement desert by broadening the number of opportunities across these counties, and expanding those engagement opportunities beyond politics. Thank you, Erin Murray, SPHR, Nate Nehring, Susan Paine, Corrie Wilder, Ed.D., and Steve Woodard for watering the seed. Learn more, and let's work together. https://lnkd.in/gJWndnyP
