Anyone who knows me well knows how important my role as a Trustee and Vice-Chair is to me. I have been involved in school governance for 15 years and have been a Trustee in a Multi Academy Trust for three years and I can honestly say that it some of the most meaningful work that I have ever done. Did you know that school governors and trustees make up one of the biggest volunteer workforces in the UK? Over a quarter of a million people are making a difference in their communities and improving the lives of children and young people by giving their time as a governor or trustee. Being involved in school governance is one of the most rewarding ways in which I have been able to give something back to society and play a part in my local community at the same time as developing my professional skills and gaining valuable experience in strategic leadership. You don’t have to be an expert in education or a parent or have any special skills to become a governor. What you do need is enthusiasm for improving outcomes for children, the inquisitiveness to question and analyse and a willingness to learn and get involved If you are looking for a meaningful and impactful volunteer role, I would wholeheartedly recommend becoming a school governor or trustee so you can help to improve opportunities for children and young people in your community. #governorsforachools #schoolgovernors #trustees #makeadifference #volunteer

Advocate for Girl Child and Women Health on Infectious diseases | Championing HPV and Cervical Cancer Screening Program supported by Ministry of Health Oyo State | Creative Content Creator | Medical brands Influencer.
World Health Organization The International Day of the Girl Child, observed annually on October 11th, serves as a reminder of the significant challenges girls face across the globe, particularly in Nigeria. In a society deeply rooted in tradition and cultural expectations, girls in Nigeria confront unique obstacles that hinder their growth, education, and health. These challenges are not only societal but also deeply tied to their health and well-being, specifically concerning reproductive health, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and life-threatening conditions like HPV and cervical cancer. Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation The Struggles of the Nigerian Girl Child In many parts of Nigeria, gender inequality begins at birth. Girls are often treated as secondary to boys, with less investment in their education, personal development, and health. Cultural norms discourage girls from being assertive or pursuing careers, as societal pressure places more importance on their roles as future wives and mothers. For many girls, the lack of access to quality education and healthcare limits their opportunities in life, often leaving them vulnerable to poverty, abuse, and poor health outcomes. Health and STI Struggles Sexually transmitted infections, including HPV, disproportionately affect young girls in Nigeria. With limited sexual education and access to health resources, many girls are unaware of the dangers of unprotected sex. The HPV and Cervical Cancer Crisis Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a common infection that is often contracted through sexual contact. In many cases, it is preventable through vaccination and regular screening. However, in Nigeria, the awareness and availability of these preventive measures are limited, especially for girls in rural areas. Cervical cancer, which is closely linked to HPV, is a significant health concern for Nigerian women. Due to the lack of awareness and healthcare infrastructure, many women only receive a diagnosis when the cancer is in its late stages, making it harder to treat. Solutions and Advocacy To address these challenges, there must be a multi-faceted approach that includes education, healthcare access, and community support. As an advocate for HPV and cervical cancer screening, I, Augustina Balogun, have been working tirelessly to raise awareness about HPV and cervical cancer in Nigeria. Conclusion On this International Day of the Girl Child, we must continue to advocate for the rights of girls in Nigeria. They deserve access to quality education, healthcare, and the freedom to make choices that will shape their futures. By addressing issues related to sexually transmitted infections, HPV, and cervical cancer, we can help create a healthier and more empowered generation of girls. My mission, as a lead advocate for HPV and cervical cancer prevention, remains to ensure that no girl is left behind. Augustina Balogun Lead Advocate for HPV and Cervical Cancer Prevention

Commenting on Trebor Scholz' new book - Own this! How Platform Cooperatives Help Workers Build a Democratic Internet (published by Verso Books), I talk about what it takes to 'scale' a sisterhood. The work by SEWA Cooperative Federation gives us some lessons, particularly on a federated model of scaling, what resources we need to achieve this, and how do informal women workers and their cooperatives sustain a movement? https://lnkd.in/d-4QgfMV

- An amendment to codify a woman's right to an abortion into our constitution could prove daunting, even with Kamala Harris at the helm, because Democrats require a sizable majority in both the House and Senate to move forward... - Also, her suggestion to rid us of the filibuster (to a simple Senate majority vote) historically has proven difficult... - At the same time, I believe with Trump at the helm, he will enact draconian laws that will outlaw abortion outright nationally as his political apparatus and his surrogates tout... - The Biden Administration proposed a vote by the legislature to appoint four new justices to the Supreme Court who may be amenable to the abortion issue. Many may see this as political, as when attempted by The FDR Administration; a move to 'stack' the court... Consider: 'A judicial 'procedural' upheaval; not a judicial 'political' upheaval.'... 'Solely the female justices of the Supreme Court alone must decide cases related to 'Womens Reproductive Health' for their fellow 'sisterhood' in the citizenry, while their male counterparts either recuse, or even abstain from such cases.'... empathyequalsjustice.com (Four Pages - Three Minute Read) Reference: Thomas Doyle - 'Top' Featured Post - #KamalaHarris

Public Policy & Advocacy I Research I Thought Leadership I Social Media & Communication I Digital Marketing I Publishing
Recently, I was editing a personal essay for The Blahcksheep where a young woman shared her frustrating experience on a production set. It was her first gig as an assistant director. She was excited and grateful just to be part of it, but by the end, disappointment had set in. She wasn’t credited for her role; instead, a man was acknowledged as the assistant director, while she remained invisible. This made her question her own worth and place in the industry. This kind of treatment isn’t limited to film; it’s a pattern we see across sectors. Young people, especially interns, work tirelessly in nonprofits, corporate offices, and even academia, often handling heavy tasks without receiving either recognition or fair remuneration. The situation feels even more concerning when we consider young women from marginalized backgrounds. Imagine the weight of navigating this kind of invisibility for a dalit or tribal woman. How is it that we, as an industry and society, accept this? How can make space for these voices, and ensure that contributions are acknowledged, and put an end to such exploitation?
