Should Solar/BESS developers raise capital on the corporate/Topco or asset level? It depends on: Size and organization structure of the developer; Core competncies of the exec team; Their pipeline of assets; Their long term goals and risk/reward appetite. In general, for smaller developers, asset level funding is better, for larger mature developers, corporate level could be a good option to creat more equity value. A company ready for an insitutional investment requires a completely different set of skills from those required to manage a small development business. The founders/exec team need to to demonstrate vision, ability to hire talent, lead an organization to achieve its goals, etc.. Those skill sets are different from those needed to run a small development shop where securing site, permitting, relationship management, etc are the core skills. It is thus very important to deepl understand the core competencies of the small business before aiming to raise institutional capital at TopCo levels. 💰 How are Securitization Deals Revolutionizing US’s Residential Solar Market: Insights from GoodLeap's $300mn Transaction 📈 Securitization deals enable residential solar service providers to accelerate their capital cycle, allowing them to package together PPAs or loans and transform them into investable securities. This ensures that the firms have access to that capital now, helping them sidestep the expensive debt market. 💰 In this particular case, the transaction provides more liquidity to GoodLeap, a US-based digital marketplace for sustainable solutions. BlackRock has achieved the first close of its Evergreen Infrastructure fund, securing nearly $1bn in commitments from European founding partners. Launched in June 2022, Evergreen Infrastructure is an open-ended equity fund focusing on European and North American infrastructure aligned with energy transition and security themes. The Fund has finalised the acquisition documents for Lighthouse Solar Austin, a US C&I solar and battery storage platform. The asset manager said the fund, with cornerstone commitments from European institutional investors like Intesa Sanpaolo and Inarcassa, plans to allocate 50-60% of its total portfolio to Western Europe.
