A&O Shearman has been ranked as the most influential law firm in the renewables project financing sector in 2023 by Clean Energy Pipeline, achieving an IF (influence factor) score of 72.25. A&O Shearman’s role on major renewable deals has not only contributed to its top ranking in Clean Energy Pipeline’s report but has also reinforced its reputation as a leader in providing legal services to renewable developers and investors. An analysis of A&O Shearman’s total deal submissions in 2023 highlights that the law firm advised developers and investors on 46 deals in the clean energy project financing sector with a total value of $25.1 billion. As a result, A&O Shearman was the highest ranked law firm by Total Deal Value for Clean Energy Project Financing in 2023. “Clean Energy Pipeline’s ranking system to evaluate the most influential law firms in the renewable energy sector (specifically within Project Finance and M&A) takes into account the volume of deals and the cumulative value of transactions advised on by the firms over the previous year,” said Chenwu Qian, Partner at Clean Energy Pipeline. “Higher rankings are allocated to those law firms that demonstrate a greater number of deals and a more substantial total deal value within Clean Energy Pipeline’s evaluative framework. “A&O Shearman’s expertise in handling large-scale, complex transactions has made the global law firm an invaluable asset to clients navigating the renewable energy landscape.” With over 40 offices across the world and a headcount numbering more than 6,270, including 613 partners, the London-headquartered Magic Circle law firm has a very credible standing in which to support its diverse client base. In the past year, A&O Shearman’s team of expert energy lawyers helped their clients navigate different and often complex regulatory systems around the world to successfully develop and finance clean energy projects, ultimately helping to add multi-gigawatts of new renewables capacity to the global grid. A&O Shearman’s international renewables remit has resulted in successful clean energy deals in a number of active markets.
