Stack Sports has joined nearly 20 partner organizations for The Aspen Institute’s new #63X30 Vision, aimed at getting 63% of youth playing sports by 2030. As of today it is estimated only 54% of children ages 6-17 in the U.S. played on a team or took lessons in 2022. As one of the partner organizations, Stack Sports joins the other partnering organizations in committing to taking actions that can get and keep more children playing sports, from creating affordable programs in underserved neighborhoods to promoting multi-sport sampling to developing more coaches to serve children’s needs. In my spare time, I am a volunteer soccer coach...I love the game. Last year, we had this vision for creating a free, fun, and friendly soccer program for 4, 5, and 6-year-olds to get started in soccer. The Claremont Stars Soccer Club, fully supported and adopted the program, we found local sponsors (ice cream shop!), and over 140 kids signed up! The recipe for winning in youth soccer is easy....Get BIG, FAST, STRONG players and KICK the ball HARD up the field to your BEST player. This is the recipe to win games, but it's destructive for developing GREAT soccer players. Young players should love to dribble and pass the ball. They need the freedom to try new things and make mistakes without parents and coaches yelling at them to "SEND IT!!" This "player development" focus will result in more losses early on....but, as they get older the game requires more and more skill. Technical ability, game intelligence, and creativity become MORE important that BIG, FAST, and STRONG. We should never sacrifice long-term goals for short-term wins, especially when the short-term wins detract from our long-term goals. Lastly, a quick rant about us parents...we need to RELAX. At your kids next soccer game, don't say anything for the entire game. Pretend that you lost your voice. Sit back, watch your kid, watch the other parents, enjoy the game. Smile a lot. Let's call this "SHUT THE HELL UP FOR JUST ONE GAME CHALLENGE." Cheers!

I am a Manchester United fan and a fan of Ben Foster and Fozcast - The Ben Foster Podcast (and Tom Ochoa whose comment put this in my path) - - which was my introduction to Mark Goldbridge and his work. Unbeknownst to me, my teenage son already knew Mark and was consuming his content from here in the US. Community that Mark references below is so important for everything we do. If you try to create for everyone, you really create for no one. Create the work that you love and that you are passionate about. Find the audience that will come along with you because they like what you stand for and they appreciate your work. Even when that audience grows - stay true to yourself. What a great example to have a community show up in a unique way for a unique event to watch along together and share the experience of a Super Bowl in the UK in the dead of the night! Sports Business Classes - - Consuming sports through nontraditional channels is here to stay. Twitch, YouTube, Instagram, and other outlets are allowing viewers a sports experience that builds and serves a specific community. What are the advantages of this alternative experience, like the Watch-Along below? What could larger broadcasters learn from it? How have some broadcasters already altered their approach? What are the risks in this approach? Finally - - One concept to throw in BARRIERS TO ENTRY. What are the barriers to entry to begin to create a community like Mark has? (Hint - not many barriers... but hard work, consistency, persistence, resilience, and some more consistency are pretty important along the way!)
