Disability inclusion is an essential condition to upholding human rights, sustainable development, and peace and security. The commitment to realizing the rights of persons with disabilities is not only a matter of justice; it is an investment in a common future. According to the United Nations, those with disabilities are less likely to access health care, education, employment and to participate in the community than those without a disability. An integrated approach is required to ensure that persons with disabilities are not left behind. Accountability and active listening are the ticket! Topics of discussion include reps for seniors in every Ward office, finalizing a senior tenants' bill of rights, creating a Chicago department on aging (you read that right: there is none), consolidating and expanding all interior and exterior home repair services, establishing local grocery stores and health clinics on the south and west sides, and more!
Calling all advocates, seniors, and persons with disabilities! H.O.M.E. is thrilled to present Let’s Kick It: The Best is Yet to Come!, Part II on June 6, 2024. Join us at the Let’s Kick It! Senior Summit at Nathalie Salmon House in Chicago to engage with representatives from all 50 Chicago Wards, listen to the insights of low-income seniors and individuals with disabilities, and gain valuable updates on relevant programs and policies from elected officials. Together, we can create an age-friendly, inclusive community where everyone has a voice and a sense of belonging. Let's make a difference, together!

Today, according to the ADA National Network, there are 54 million Americans living with a disability. Every July, we recognize Disability Pride Month by raising awareness, normalizing disability, reclaiming public visibility, and rejecting ableism. Today, it’s a global event that celebrates people with disabilities, their cultures, and their contributions—aiming to shift perceptions, end stigma, and affirm disability as natural human diversity. This month and always, let’s keep in mind: "Words are powerful." Scroll to learn a few points from the ADA National Network on how to write and speak about people with disabilities:
