Folks argue over words, but the truth is - without a healthy workplace culture, everyone suffers. It is with this as a basis that I was asked to co-author a paper that has just been released from the White House. I encourage you to look at it. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives have been pivotal in fostering workplace equality and nurturing environments where everyone feels valued since the 1960s. Leading companies have reaped the rewards of DEI, experiencing diverse leadership and enhanced innovation. If her thoughts resonate with you, join COAST: https://lnkd.in/gBzCyeWc 1.   What made you become a founding member of COAST?  🌟 [Dr. Oudekerk] I was fortunate enough to be a part of a group of systemic leaders who saw a need to connect with other associations to discuss the future of the MFT profession. We were able to collaborate and share some ideas that pushed us forward in creating an association that supports systemic therapists and the valuable work being done. Being a founder member allows me an opportunity to support the mission of COAST. 2.   Describe COAST's mission in a way that feels meaningful to you. 🌟 [Dr. Oudekerk] The mission of COAST is meaningful because I feel that systemic therapy is very crucial in helping individuals and families everywhere. When an association can support the systemic work as well as the systemic providers and educators, then it also creates more longevity in the field. 3.   What would you like future COAST members to find in COAST? 🌟 [Dr. Oudekerk] I would like them to find a home that is accepting and supportive of their professional path. 4.   What's one good reason more MFTs should consider joining COAST? 🌟 [Dr. Oudekerk] Being a part of a national association helps us to form a professional identity, creates opportunities for service and leadership, and it also provides the much-needed systemic training that we need to continue to stay relevant on the issues we face as systemic therapists. #mft #systemictraining #systemictherapy

In case you missed it, Harvard Business Review published an excellent article series this past September with a lead article by Laura Morgan Roberts entitled, “Where Does DEI Go from Here?” The lead article speaks to the importance of re-committing to DEIB efforts (even when facing challenging headwinds) and discusses how orienting to a more holistic goal of ‘flourishing’ may the only way we can collectively tackle historically high worker stress & disengagement at a global cost estimated as high as $8.8 trillion.  As you and your teams are finalizing how to achieve your DEIB goals in 2024, be sure to add this to your end-of-year catch-up reading.

This year's journal is now up on our website. Over the next few months we will be spotlighting the work of our contributors. This week we are looking at 'The unspoken divide: class and the cultural sector'. The article was written by Léa Guzzo, EDI Consultant. The conversation about class remains still too absent in the cultural sector. While discussions around low pay are commonplace, cultural workers rarely share their social class origins, even when they reach the top of cultural organisations. Why is it so uncomfortable to talk about class in a sector that prides itself on its commitment to diversity and inclusion? How might we include class more in our considerations of communities and care? The cultural sector, for all its inclusivity commitments, still brings attitudes that subtly ‘other’ working class individuals. Communities and care is a response to the UK Government’s ‘Levelling up’ agenda connected to a perceived lack of culture or other infrastructure. At its core, is the idea of engaging communities, most often used in the professional arts sector to refer to collective groups working together, defined by a distinguishing factor across a shared experience. Take a journey through visual art practice, engagement and participation in the era of placemaking and levelling up, simultaneously exploring the uses of the word care in relation to this work.
