A city-wide partnership, Making Dundee a Living Wage City, has hit a major milestone in reaching its 5th anniversary. 🎉 In 2019, Dundee was the first city in the UK to adopt the new place-based approach which aims to drive uptake in the real Living wage by local businesses. Paying the real Living Wage is all about getting fair payment for the work done. It is beneficial for workers and employers as it improves staff retention rates leading to reduced costs for businesses in the long term. Launched on March 6th, the campaign pulled together major local employers such as Dundee City Council, Dundee Voluntary Action, Dundee & Angus College, Xplore Dundee and Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce to agree to work as an action group to promote the living wage in the city and take forward agreed commitments. These commitments were the foundations of the city’s living wage Action Plan and included: • Sign up other major employers in the city. • Encourage employers in retail and hospitality to commit to the real Living Wage. • Support and celebrate small businesses who join the Living Wage employer movement. The first five years of the alliance that have followed have seen significant progress on this as well as many highlights. ▶️ Read more: https://lnkd.in/gPN9UKnF

The West Yorkshire Combined Authority are now officially accredited as a real Living Wage Employer 🙌 Over 14% of jobs across Yorkshire and the Humber pay below the real Living Wage, with at least 314,000 workers earning less than they need to buy food, pay bills, and make ends meet in the cost of living crisis. Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire, said: “West Yorkshire is a region of grafters, and hard work should always be rewarded with fair pay and conditions. Paying at least the real Living Wage is the most sure-fire way for employers to boost their productivity, while ensuring their workers receive a wage they can actually live on. Here at the Combined Authority, we remain committed to paying the real Living Wage whilst supporting others to do the same, as we build a stronger, brighter West Yorkshire that works for all.” Katherine Chapman, Director of the Living Wage Foundation, said: “We’re delighted that the West Yorkshire Combined Authority has joined the movement of over 14,000 responsible employers across the UK who voluntarily commit to go further than the government minimum to make sure all their staff earn enough to live on. They join thousands of small businesses, as well as household names such as Burberry, Barclays, Everton Football Club and many more. These businesses recognise that paying the real Living Wage is the mark of a responsible employer and they, like the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, believe that a hard day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay. We look forward to working with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority to grow the Living Wage across the region." #LivingWage #Yorkshire #WestYorkshire #RealLivingWage https://lnkd.in/ey-Qjg7S

"Are you worried about the high cost of living in Oxford? We are too. "Do you want to help us make it easier for local people? You can be part of the solution by committing to paying the Oxford Living Wage to your staff. "In 2018, Oxford City Council launched the Oxford Living Wage, a minimum hourly wage rate based on the Living Wage Foundation’s Real Living Wage. "It is set at 95% of the Real Living Wage for London and was designed to provide livable earnings in Oxford, recognising the city's high cost of living. "We review it annually and as of April 5 2024, the rate will be £12.49 per hour for employees and contractors. "But it's not just about numbers—it's about building a fairer community. By committing to the Oxford Living Wage, you're ensuring that every person who is contributing to your business and to our city’s economy is more likely to be able to afford to live here and to spend money back in the local economy. "For employers, research shows clear benefits. "Treating your workers well makes them happier and more productive, which helps your business grow and makes your customers more loyal. 🌐✨ "Research from the Living Wage Foundation found that paying a living wage leads to fewer complaints and staff absences, reducing HR costs. "Being an official Oxford Living Wage-accredited employer also means you’ll be listed on the Council’s website, be invited to an annual event and benefit from promotion as part of our employer recognition scheme. 🎉 "Over 130 businesses earned accreditation last year, and I'm keen to see that number grow. It isn’t hard to get involved, the accreditation doesn't cost you anything, and it's easy to do. "You can either write to the Council confirming your commitment or complete the form below, to register your interest and we’ll contact you to gather more information." Councillor Susan Brown, Leader of Oxford City Council and Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy and Partnerships https://lnkd.in/e5XDA_yP

We're delighted to announce that we have been accredited as a Living Wage Scotland employer. The Living Wage commitment will see everyone working at Eco Cable Protect UK receive at least the minimum hourly wage of £12 per hour, delivering a fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work. The Living Wage rate is higher than the government minimum for over 21s, which currently stands at £11.44 per hour, and is calculated according to the costs of living. Speaking about McGowan Group's decision to become a Living Wage employer, Peter Kelly, Director of The Poverty Alliance said: “We all need an income that is enough to cover our needs and protect us from poverty, and it’s only right that employers pay a wage that reflects the cost of living. Too many workers in Scotland are paid less than the real Living Wage and, at a time of rising costs, are struggling to stay afloat. The real Living Wage can offer protection from those rising costs. “Congratulations to McGowan Group on their Living Wage commitment, and I hope more organisations follow their lead by becoming Living Wage accredited.” Gail Irvine, Manager at Living Wage Scotland said: “We’re delighted that McGowan Group has become an accredited Living Wage employer. They join a growing movement of nearly 3500 employers in Scotland who together want to ensure workers have what they need to thrive." The Living Wage accreditation extends to all group companies, including McGowan Environmental Ltd. and McGowan Infrastructure.

At Just Helpers we believe everyone should be paid a real Living Wage which reflects the cost of living. That’s why we are proud to be a Living Wage Employer, working with the cleaning industry, and sit on the Service Provision Action Strand of the Making London a Living Wage City campaign, working to put £635m of wages back into the pockets of low-wage workers in London. For us we have seen the very start difference that paying this rates makes to the lives of individuals. From being able to afford fresh cuts of meat and fruit and veg, rather than surviving of junk food saver menus. And getting back to their country of origin to visit their children and extended family after years of working abroad. The Living Wage Foundation have published a toolkit to help service providers to work with them in promoting the real Living Wage. The toolkit outlines the benefits of paying the Living Wage, both to businesses and their employees, and runs through how you can accredit to formally join the movement. If your organisation would be interested in joining the Living Wage movement I/we would encourage you to have a look through this toolkit and contact the Living Wage Foundation to begin your journey and allow the people in your sphere of influence to thrive not just survive. https://lnkd.in/erdw-g-8 Fin Watkinson Gary Binder Charlie Walker Clean for Good Matt Parfitt Sara Johnson Frankie Webster Julieta Cuneo Malcolm Hills Tamsin Lewis Amanda McCloskey #RightPayForAll #LivingWage #smartbusiness #WinWinWin #MLLWC

Kicking off 2024 with the news that we're an accredited Living Wage Employer! In London, 13.6% of all jobs pay less than the real Living Wage – that's 575,000 jobs. There is no available data for advertising and marketing services businesses, but there are plenty of anecdotal examples of graduates working below the real London living wage in London agencies. We believe this practice should stop. Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/eSChHcWZ #livingwageemployer #livingwage Living Wage Foundation

With 4 July fast approaching, what manifesto commitments have the two main parties made in respect of pay and employment? The minimum wage features in both parties’ manifestos. The National Living Wage, the ‘adult’ statutory minimum rate for workers aged 21 and over, reached two-thirds of median earnings in April 2024 and the Conservatives intend to maintain it at this level in each year of the next Parliament. According to their manifesto, on current forecasts this would see it rise to around £13 an hour (an increase of around 14%) over the five-year term...

We’re proud to have become an accredited Living Wage Employer through the Living Wage Foundation. The Real Living Wage is higher than the National Minimum Wage and is the only UK wage rate based on the #CostOfLiving, considering factors such as housing costs, food prices, and utility expenses. We’ve been paying our employees the #RealLivingWage since 2022 and this accreditation officially recognises our commitment to ensuring that they, and any regularly contracted workers, are paid the living wage hourly rate. Currently, only 93 organisations in #NorthernIreland are Living Wage employers, compared to 3,714 in Scotland and 580 in Wales. We received the accreditation today in Parliament Buildings at the launch of Advice NI’s #LivingWageNI initiative, which aims to increase adoption of the Real Living Wage among employers across Northern Ireland. We hope that by becoming accredited, we’re helping to grow the Living Wage movement across Northern Ireland.
