September is National Workforce Development Month and the search is on for HAWAII’S 2024 WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT HEROES. Do you know someone who, despite their hectic personal schedule and daily pressures, continues to give of themselves, often beyond the call of duty. This person knows that a rising tide raises all ships -- when our workforce succeeds, the economy improves and our community succeeds. Through their outstanding work, our work force development professionals have made our Hawaii a better place for all. Nominate someone you know who goes above and beyond not just within their own organizations, but throughout the workforce development community. There will be six winners: two from Oahu, one from Maui, one from Kauai, one from the Big Island, and a Lifetime Achievement Award. Deadline for nominations is Monday, September 16, 2024 and the winners will be announced and will be celebrated at the Future of Work Conference on September 30, 2024. In July, 10 students graduated from the inaugural Good Jobs Help Desk Technician Prep Course developed in partnership with Leeward Community College and local IT business partners. This industry-informed training aims to address the shortage of entry-level IT talent in the state. The course equips students with both technical and soft skills, preparing them for the on-the-job internship that follows the course. "Everything in this class is fundamental to becoming a new technician and gives you a solid foundation to build upon throughout your career," said Chad Kam, one of the course’s graduates and an intern at Hawaii Tech Support.
