The CDP has finally incorporated TNFD recommendations to their well anticipated 2024 questionnaire. Building Nature-based impacts into carbon accounting is a major milestone as these metrics are incredibly difficult to quantify and translate in terms of materiality. It was great to co-author a piece for #RPC's latest #RegulatoryRadar exploring the FCA's anti-greenwashing rule and the role of whistleblowing in ESG compliance 🌏 https://shorturl.at/rvS2e Key takeaways: 📌 The FCA's anti-greenwashing rule is another clear sign that UK regulators are serious about tackling greenwashing. The FCA will likely want to land a 'big name' to set an example for others in the market (as we've seen with the CMA and ASA). Watch this space. 📌 Business leaders should be alive to the people implications of the rule including how employees' concerns about sustainability claims are dealt with. Whistleblowing now plays a pivotal role in ESG compliance and is being used by employees to expose misleading corporate sustainability claims (Desiree Fixler's recent exposure of greenwashing by DWS is just one example: https://shorturl.at/SdvMc). Where internal whistleblowing processes are weak or employees' concerns are ignored, companies can face significant reputational risks. 📌Legislators also see whistleblowing as a vital tool for ensuring compliance with emerging ESG regs – e.g. under the CSDDD companies must set up robust internal notification mechanisms to surface any concerns about the company's environmental and human rights impact.
