Five lessons learned on the journey to Net Zero – a thought leadership piece by Michael Rea, the Carbon Trust’s Chief Executive Officer. Michael said, “when I joined the Carbon Trust in 2002, some of my ex-management consultant colleagues were baffled by my decision. At the time, climate change was not seen by many as a relevant issue to business, with Net Zero strategies viewed as a 'nice to have' versus a 'must have'.” After 20+ years of experience at the Carbon Trust, a global climate consultancy, find out Michael’s lessons learned ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ef_GXw-m

The transition to Net Zero is a transformative process that will inevitably create both winners and losers. While I agree with Michael Rea on many points, it might not be as simple as choosing between being a leader or a fast follower. For many SMEs, given the availability of resources and risk tolerance, it might be wiser to be the latter, Noting the urgency of the climate crisis, it might be better to follow and allocate the limited resources in proven approaches and adopt the many clean energy technologies that are well established in the market. However, this should not be mistaken for hesitation or inaction; it’s about making informed, strategic decisions in the pursuit of sustainability. Those who hesitate, waiting for the perfect moment or a clearer path, risk being left behind.

This article from the CEO of The Carbon Trust describes the pivot in attitude over the last twenty years to net-zero objectives. The key lessons learnt are; - it is the private sector that will deliver results - within a supportive government framework - it is time that each organisation has its own net-zero plan - collaboration between organisations is critical to success - political leadership plays a significant role - the winners are those that understand the challenge and plan to address it At Powercor we help clients to reduce energy consumption, generate their own energy and reduce carbon emissions from their energy usage.
