The challenge of ageing healthcare facilities and estates struggling to meet our rapidly evolving and diverse treatment and population needs is a conversation that we’re having across the globe. This challenge is being tackled head-on in Queensland, Australia. The Capacity Expansion Program, which Turner & Townsend is proud to support, is set to deliver more than 2,000 new hospital beds by 2028, as part of improvements to 12 existing hospitals and four brand new ones. This is no simple task, but Queensland Health’s programmatic approach is bearing fruit: fostering collaboration in the supply chain, considering cost alongside carbon, and embracing opportunities for standardised designs that optimise modern methods of construction. It’s a fantastic example in rethinking the way healthcare infrastructure should and can be delivered – and providing important lessons for us in the UK.
Read our interview with Priscilla Radice, Deputy Director General at the Health Capital Division for Queensland Health: https://bit.ly/4bq53lz Priscilla is managing the state’s ambitious AU$14bn programme of investment that we are supporting. This programme will transform infrastructure planning and deliver over 2,000 new beds across 12 existing hospitals and four state-of-the-art healthcare facilities by 2028. #healthcare #infrastructure #MajorProgrammes

The decades-long trend of disinvestment in healthcare infrastructure has led to unacceptable barriers to access and serious challenges to the quality of care Canadians receive. Addressing these issues can seem dauntingly complex; before adopting new policies, it’s important to make sure remedies are well designed to achieve a return on investment. In determining the most impactful ways to move forward, the government and other key players in Canada’s healthcare system can look to other countries whose healthcare systems are particularly effective on a given measure and take a page from those countries’ playbook. 🔗 Read the full story on The Gryphon Group Blog: https://lnkd.in/gB6VyQun #healthcarenews #healthcareindustry #canadianhealth #healthcanada #healthcaresystems #TheGryphonGroup

Canada’s healthcare system poses a challenge to a consistent national dialogue: #healthcare falls under provincial/territorial jurisdiction, resulting in a unique blend of models rather than one national system. While this approach was a strength for much of Canada’s history, it may now be a weakness. Read the CSA Public Policy Centre’s paper https://bit.ly/49hx4Lt to learn how policymakers can take a principled approach to both improve and expand the current healthcare system in Canada.
