I'm overwhelmed as I announce the Edition 2 of Eventpreneur's Power Women Award today. In our new 2.0 edition, we are bigger, louder, wider and so so much prouder!!! This award is a much needed recognition of the extraordinary women & agencies creating impact in Events, Marketing & Communications. I had to fight very hard for this to happen this year. Truly a result of blood, sweat and a whole lot of tears (maybe one day i will tell you the story). As a woman, I am by default the primary caregiver to my family. I'm also extremely ambitious. My personal life and my work are something i must balance every single day. Is it truly more challenging for me to grow? Oh Yes, you bet it is. As we continue March, Women’s History month, I am delighted to share my conversation with the Queen of #salesenablement Stephanie White 🩵 Stephanie is a cheerleader📣 for women all the time, not just March. She shares many insights and techniques we can adopt as women to lean in. ➡️Having difficult conversations ➡️Speaking up ➡️Becoming more curious and ➡️Tapping into our inner child. Something happens as we get older, we move further away from our inner child and adopt a layer of learned helplessness. We question ourselves, our abilities and may play small. Stephanie shares the importance of reframing, how can we see our failures as lessons learned rather than play a damaging message over and over in our heads. Through our “Trailblazers in History” video campaign, we share the stories of “unseen” female change-makers. From historic firsts to pioneering the world’s most innovative concepts, women have made extraordinary contributions to the world as we know it. Yet, so many of these iconic women’s achievements have gone largely unnoticed because they were never documented in history books. For example, Albert Einstein’s first wife, Mileva Marić-Einstein, was a physicist too – and there’s plenty of evidence that her work contributed significantly to his groundbreaking science. They decided to publish under his name because a man's name carried more weight. The purpose of this campaign is simple, but powerful: Make the invisible visible by highlighting forgotten women in history. With a small social team of just a few people (who truly love uncovering the history of trailblazing women) and zero budget, we’ve organically grown this series post by post. As #communications professionals, we’re often the architects of clarity—crafting messages that resonate, connecting dots, and steering narratives. But what about the uncharted territory—the gray zones where answers aren’t neatly packaged? Our fearless leader Dalya Qualls White said it best when she was recently honored by Ragan Communications: Mastering ambiguity is truly an underrated skill for #communicators. One thing I love about communications (and why I started my career in journalism) is that it provides so many opportunities to become an expert on a topic in a short amount of time. I can't tell you how many times I've sought a crash course from a colleague, trying to digest complex topics in record time so that I could deliver on a #comms needs. Some of my favorite crash courses in the past 10 years: SCOTUS confirmations, youth justice reform, tariff policy, how to win a Tony Award, the LSU bell tower. To my fellow communicators, what skills do you believe are underrated in our field? Or what's your favorite crash course memory?

I got an email proclaiming that I'm a finalist for 'The Top 50 Women Chief Experience Officers of 2024'... which was flattering at 1st glance. In order to accept & claim this recognition I just need to become a member of the org. (which is $500 year with very light weight member benefits) That made it feel more like a pay to play vanity award then a legitimate one... when they followed up I said as much & they tried to assure me that they get a lot of applicants & do a lot of research. I don't know how to feel about it. I guess I am cynical to assume the worst of this org (which I won't name) which might actually be about women's empowerment & recognition. ----> Have you ever been offered something that felt like a shady money grab but appealed to your ego? Have you ever joined a membership with big promises that delivered nearly no value whatsoever? Do you think I should take the award? (now I have nowhere to proudly post about it after shooting holes in it's premise on the one platform that would make sense to post it on) Do you think I am being jaded & cynical or just seeing through a flimsy business model?

Have you ever started something or done something as a ‘one off’ and it’s morphed into something else that’s completely amazing? If you’d have told me 8 years ago that a small one off event would turn into a whole business, I wouldn’t have believed you. I wanted to create something that filled a space, something unique to inspire women in business, and give them the confidence to recognise and celebrate their achievements. I feel that I’ve achieved that, and so much more. Being awarded my MBE for my work showed me that too. I’m passionate about holding your hand and walking you through my Awards process. No categories?
