🔦💡Spotlight on Daniel, one of our amazing Teens In Public Service (TiPS) interns for our Summer Academy program. We are lucky to have a great relationship with TiPS and their incredible youth leaders. Meet Daniel, a local role model with a passion for community building: 🏗What interests you about public service? What interest me most about public service is making a difference in my own and others' communities. 📚What do you enjoy about working the Summer Academy Program at ASC? I enjoy the fact that it’s obvious everyone puts in effort whether it’s staff organizing stuff or students working hard. 🔮️What do you want your future in public service to look like? I want to be a leader of communities and support positive change. ⚽️Tell us about a hobby of yours when you are not working! A hobby I really enjoy is sports from watching them to playing them. My favorites are soccer, basketball, and football.

Summer breaks offer a unique opportunity to advance your personal and academic growth, inviting you to explore, experiment, learn, travel, and craft memorable experiences. It's essential to understand that merely attending summer school is not a golden ticket to Ivy League admissions. To truly stand out in the competitive college admissions landscape, it's crucial to leverage your summer in ways that demonstrate curiosity, initiative, and a capacity for leadership and innovation. Engage in community service projects, start a small business, conduct independent research, or immerse yourself in a new culture through travel. These experiences can vividly illustrate your unique qualities and potential to admissions committees. Summer is not just a season; it's a canvas for personal growth and exploration. It's about painting a picture of who you are and who you aspire to become. We encourage you to book a consultation with us to discover strategic ways to maximize your summer break. It’s summertime! The academic year at colleges and universities has concluded and our campuses have gone quiet(er) in terms of students. My 10-month faculty just went off contract on June 15th and except for those teaching summer classes, faculty offices have gone quiet(er) as well. As we look forward to vacation time with family to mentally recharge, summer can be a time to recharge professionally. Whether it is your time to read that stack of work-related books you could not get to, earn a certification, take a graduate course, or overall upskill in a new area, what is the ONE thing you want to accomplish professionally this summer? I’ll go first…I have some new certifications I need to earn in preparation for my new job here at Carroll. More on that in another post. 😊

🌟 Attention all teachers! ✏️🍎 Ahhh, summertime! If you’re a teacher, just reading or hearing that word can flood you with feelings of relief and respite. And for good reason. Teachers work hard, and the school year can be just as grueling as it is fulfilling. Educators are multidisciplinary professionals doing everything from creating lesson plans and giving classroom instruction to reading and grading hundreds of papers and tests. On top of that, they devise games and presentations, chaperone field trips, lead clubs, and meet with parents. They also continually develop their skills through professional development. With their summer break, teachers have an opportunity to choose with intention whatever activities most restore and fulfill them. Summer can be their chance to explore travel or hobbies they don’t have time for during the school year. They can also use the time to develop their professional skills and qualifications by working toward a degree or achieving a new certification. Or they can get a summer job, whether education-related or not. Most decide to do some combination of these ideas. For best results, plan ahead! Ready to take your summer to another level? Critical to have the one on one partner mentor and associate liason. A firm with a real interest in the summer student will have 20 minutes with the partner every day and at least a one hour session every week. Every summer student interested in business law should be on two deal teams at all times. Show you care.
We are thrilled to welcome our 2024 class of summer associates to the firm this week! Across our U.S. offices, Davis Polk’s summer associates will contribute to real client work, be mentored by a partner and an associate liaison, and complete immersive training programs, among many other valuable professional experiences. They will also enjoy an active calendar full of fun cultural and social events. We look forward to a fantastic summer!
