Our teams at PEF & HCS hosted the 6th annual Chattanooga Fab Institute #ChattFab24. The experience attracted 200 Edus from 17 states and had a waiting list w/ over 100 more eager to join. I was asked by several community leaders how this movement grew. Here are a few thoughts:
• have a clear vision that is co-constructed with voices from every level
• Truly value your partners
• Empower those under your care
• Find people who fill your gaps and work diligently to value them
• Keep the main thing the main thing
• Listen, really listen, and adjust
• Give credit, take blame
• Celebrate others’ wins
• Communicate, communicate, communicate
• Be the spark—remember energy (both positive and negative) is highly transferable
• Address the mountains, appease the molehills, and know the difference
• Find and tell the stories. The narratives are the context that turn mundane into marvelous
• When challenge arise, assess them, make a best available decision, and move on
• Own mistakes. If you’re the leader, their mistakes are yours. Own them and improve
• Reflect praise—nothing worthwhile is ever accomplished in isolation. Elevate and celebrate the people who contributed at every level.
