THE EMERGENCY FUND RECENTLY HELPED MELOBROWN! 🚑 Melobrown, a sweet 5-year-old Nebraska kitty, was diagnosed with Stomatitis, and he needed surgery to extract all of his teeth. Melo's veterinarian estimated the cost to be around $2500.00. Melo's mom is a single parent; she makes a small income that barely covers the bills. She contacted us last month to see if we could help. Unfortunately, we were already fundraising for Rocket the miracle kitty's second surgery and senior kitty Pete's dental surgery. Luckily, we had funds in the Emergency Fund and were able to help Melo get the surgery he needed. The surgery went well; however, his veterinarian found severe ulcers in the back of Melo's throat (a painful symptom of Stomatitis). Melo had a few rough days post-op, but his mom said he is doing great; he is back to eating, and he seems so much happier. The Emergency Fund helped Melo; we can't individually fundraise for every pet we help, and that's why the Emergency Fund is vital to our mission. TODAY IS CHANGE A PET'S LIFE DAY! 😻 We have two beautiful Iowa kitties who need a little help with the cost of their medical care. 🐈 🐈⬛ Ms. Kitty's skin condition is robbing her from a good quality of life. Her once luscious coat is dull; her skin is dry, and she has excessive fur loss. While her mom has explored homeopathic remedies, it is clear that Kitty needs veterinary care. At 11 years old, Kitty has already experienced life in a shelter before finding a loving home. Unfortunately, many older cats do not have the same fortune. The fact that Kitty's mom adopted her from a shelter as a senior kitty speaks volumes about her compassion and dedication to giving animals a second chance. 💕 Tawny has a tumor on a mammary gland that needs to be surgically removed. This type of tumor is commonly found in intact female cats but can still occur in spayed cats like Tawny. Her veterinarian will send the tumor off for a biopsy to determine its nature. This biopsy will provide valuable information about whether the tumor is benign or potentially cancerous. Tawny's elderly mom is understandably worried about the outcome of the biopsy. Tawny’s mom is disabled; she adopted Tawny from a rescue a year ago, and she cherishes the companionship they share. THE EMERGENCY FUND HELPED HAWKEYE 🚑 Handsome Hawkeye, a South Carolina kitty, was rescued from the streets as a tiny kitten during zero temperatures. His mother and siblings had perished, but a kind lady found him and took him in. Hawkeye has flourished in his furever home; however, recently his mom noticed that he was drooling and having trouble eating. Hawkeye’s veterinarian confirmed he had periodontal disease and needed a thorough cleaning with extractions. Surgery had been estimated at around $600; however, his mom is low-income and could not afford it. She takes care of her elderly, disabled mother, and they barely get by on her mother’s disability check and food stamps. Hawkeye is just 11 years old; this surgery would extend his quality of life. We had to help this handsome boy and his mom; however, we were already fundraising for Corvo’s FHO (Femoral Head Osteotomy) surgery; luckily, we had funds in the Emergency Fund, and Hawkeye got his much-needed surgery. The surgery went well; 9 teeth were extracted, and he did great post-op. Hawkeye had a check-up, and his veterinarian is happy with his recovery; he has some sutures that have not completely dissolved but should be in a month or two. The Emergency Fund helped Hawkeye; we can't individually fundraise for every pet we help, and that's why the Emergency Fund is vital to our mission. The Emergency Fund recently helped a young cat in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. 🚑 Prescott is just two years old and still a very playful kitten. Due to his energetic behavior and a severe case of kitten “Zoomies,” Prescott fell off a high cabinet and injured his back leg severely. 🙀 His dad rushed him to the veterinary clinic and x-rays showed he had suffered a compound fracture of the tibia and fibula bones. The veterinarian recommended amputating Prescott’s leg immediately, however, his dad could not afford the surgery cost. Prescott’s leg was placed in a splint to prevent further damage and he was sent home with pain medication. Prescott's dad turned to family and friends, seeking financial aid to cover the surgery cost. Despite these efforts, an additional $850 was required to proceed with the life-changing operation. Desperate, Prescott’s dad contacted us. He said, “Prescott is in so much pain right now, even with the pain medicine, and cannot use the bathroom, eat, or drink on his own.” 💔 Due to the urgency, we used funds from the Emergency Fund to get Prescott into surgery ASAP! Prescott had amputation surgery on May 2nd. Prescott has done remarkably well post-op, adjusting to life with just 3 legs; his incision area has completely healed and he no longer needs his cone. Prescott's story serves as a testament to the unwavering dedication of pet owners and the crucial role that The Emergency Fund plays in providing timely assistance to animals in need. We use your donations to support research projects across the UK developing non-animal approaches to human healthcare problems. Dr Sarah Maddocks was awarded a grant for £14,500 through our Innovation Grant funding. But what does that buy you in the world of chronic wound research?  Sarah and her team are developing a 3D-printed, laboratory-based chronic wound infection model. To do that she needs: - £4,500 to purchase bacterial and human skin cell cultures  - £2,000 for bio-inks such as alginate  - £4,000 for materials to help create and validate the model  - £1,500 for the maintenance of the model  - £2,500 for general lab consumables and training The cost of research can seem high, but the cost of doing nothing is even higher. UPDATE ON LITTLE NUGGET!🍗 Nugget has fully recovered from her amputation surgery. Nugget had a post-op check-up, and the staples were removed. Her incision area has healed, and Nugget is living her best doggo life again! 🐶 Nugget's Story: Nugget was severely injured after she hopped off the curb into the path of an oncoming car. 🙀 The car clipped Nugget's little leg and snapped her femur bone in two. Due to the severity of the injury, the Emergency veterinarian recommended amputating the limb. Nugget's mom could not afford her surgery, so she contacted us to see if we could help. We fundraised for Nugget; we were not able to raise the total cost of her surgery, but fortunately, we had funds available in our Emergency Fund to cover the rest of the cost. 🚑 Nugget's life was saved because of the kind and generous animal lovers who donated. Timmy, a brave ginger cat, is enduring a harrowing recovery after a brutal accident caused by a callous driver who heartlessly ignored the scene. This preventable tragedy has left Timmy with a fractured nasal bone, a completely popped-out eye, severe chest trauma with blood and fluid accumulation, a tail that needed amputation, and countless lacerations. Worst of all, this once-healthy young cat is now completely blind—a heartbreaking and irreversible condition. The agony and suffering Timmy endures every day is unimaginable. Once filled with the joys of playful exploration, his world is now plunged into darkness and pain. Yet, through it all, Timmy's spirit remains unbroken. PLEASE HELP SAVE SNOWBABY'S LIFE! 🙏 This sweet boy was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism; he has lost a lot of weight and muscle mass, and he's just not doing well. However, Snowbaby is one of the rare cats who experiences bad side effects from the daily medication that is usually used to treat this. The only course of treatment is radioactive iodine therapy (I-131). Unfortunately, this type of treatment requires handling radioactive drugs, so it's only available at certain veterinary hospitals. The closest clinic that can treat Snowbaby is 3 hours away in Maryland. The cost of this life-saving treatment is very expensive. The estimate is between $3,066.47- 3,643.58. Snowbaby's mom is very low-income and receives disability benefits. She can't afford this on her own, and without the treatment, Snowbaby will die.
