The Aliveness Project is deeply saddened by Rainbow Health's sudden, unexpected closure. Rainbow Health has provided a vital role in the lives of our members and the LGBTQ+ community. Our hearts go out to the 60 staff members and thousands of clients affected by this loss. Please take care of yourself and each other. Despite the challenges we face, we firmly believe we will emerge a stronger community.

Indigenous members of LGBTQ+ community experience markedly high rates of anxiety (77%) and depression (65%) as young adults, according to The Trevor Project. Informed, inclusive and affirming care is one of the best tools we have to help. When you feel seen and safe, it is easier to practice trust and vulnerability with a provider. But finding that level of care isn't always easy. Our goal is to change that. You:Flourish connects the LGBTQ+ community to vetted providers, so they can have better experiences and focus on their mental health journeys — not educating a provider. May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. How are you celebrating our AAPI neighbors, family members, colleagues and community members this month (and all year)? Three recommendations: 1. Check out the work of the The Asian Community Fund at the Boston Foundation and follow my colleague, Danielle Kim. 2. Read the current issue of Boston Spirit Magazine and specifically the article on community funds in support of the LGBTQ+ community, including a new fund launched in the Merrimack Value thanks to Julie Chen & Susu Wong. 3. Finally, read this piece that came out last year that centers LGBTQ+ mental health and the AAPI experience.

It is more important than ever to check in with friends and let them know that you are there for them. Election cycles are extra challenging for the LGBTQIA2S+ community, the toxic energy that politicians put out is harmful, so let's check in with each other and tell them that we care about them. Be willing to listen and let your friends share openly without judgment. It is ok to be vulnerable. #LGBTQIA2SPlusPeopleMater #DiversityInclusionBelonging #InclusiveEducation #SupportQueers #worldsuicideprevention

For the LGBTQ+ community, social determinants of health play a major role in health outcomes. 1.5 million people a year experience homelessness, and for members of the LGBTQ+ community, the statistics are much worse. This #pridemonth we revisit a blog from Chief Operating Officer Matt Goudreau, highlighting ways you can take action or volunteer, along with wonderful organizations to support: https://hubs.la/Q02DkgCs0

For LGBTQ+ patients, it can be difficult to share and discuss sexual orientation and gender identity with a health care professional. As a pediatrician and a mother of three members of the LGBTQ+ community, our colleague Alix shares some important reminders to find supportive care: 🏳️🌈 Do your research and ask questions to find a supportive provider. 🏳️🌈 Be 100% transparent with a trusted health care provider. 🏳️🌈 Care for your mental health, too. 3moWow! I am saddened as well to see Rainbow Health has closed its doors. My relationship both personally and professionally go back to when Rainbow Health was the Minnesota AIDS project. They have assisted many people over the years with a variety of challenges that included: healthcare, mental health, and housing. I had established a great relationship with Rainbow Health's team of navigators while I served as the program manager at AICDC Withdrawal Management. It is truly a sad day for the Twin Cities Communities 🌹🙏🏿💐
