📢Water companies must urgently invest in sewage infrastructure to provide solutions to the outrageous sewage spills issue. Regulators must also hold them to account. We can also hold them to account via our citizen science programmes to push for action. One of our main goals at Thames21 is to connect communities to their local rivers, enabling people to enjoy, care for and protect their green and blue spaces. Having said that, volunteers are at the heart of what we do. Besides participating in river clean-ups and vegetation management tasks, volunteers can also carry out research and monitoring duties and become citizen scientists. Learn more about citizen science and how you can get involved in our latest article here: https://ow.ly/jhkF50R6JPL #thames21 #citizenscience #volunteer #riverconservation

The Importance of Addressing Brownfield Sites in Key Areas 🌍 As of 2024, there are over 450,000 Brownfield sites across the United States. These sites, often remnants of industrial or commercial use, pose significant environmental and health risks due to potential contamination. Many Brownfields are located in crucial areas such as near beaches or in otherwise beautiful, habitable regions, making their cleanup and redevelopment even more vital. Why It Matters: Environmental Protection: Cleaning up Brownfields helps protect local ecosystems and prevents harmful contaminants from spreading. Public Health: Reducing exposure to hazardous substances improves health outcomes for communities. Economic Growth: Transforming blighted sites into valuable community assets boosts local economies and revitalizes neighborhoods. The EPA's Brownfields Program is dedicated to assessing, cleaning up, and sustainably reusing these contaminated properties. This initiative not only mitigates environmental and health hazards but also opens up opportunities for economic redevelopment and community revitalization. The program provides financial assistance and technical support to communities, states, tribes, and other stakeholders involved in Brownfield cleanup and redevelopment. Key Benefits of Brownfield Redevelopment: 🌿 Improved Local Ecosystems 🏡 Enhanced Public Health 📈 Boosted Economic Growth Addressing Brownfields in these key areas can significantly enhance the quality of life for residents and contribute to a sustainable future. For more detailed information about the location and redevelopment of Brownfields, visit the EPA's Brownfields page here. Let's work together to transform these sites into thriving, vibrant communities! 🌟 #EnvironmentalProtection #PublicHealth #EconomicGrowth #Brownfields #SustainableDevelopment #CommunityRevitalization

MEMBER NEWS: LGLC Receives $27,600 for Organizational Support The Lake George Land Conservancy (LGLC) has been awarded a grant of $27,600 from this year’s New York State Conservation Partnership Program (NYSCPP) to help further its mission to protect the land that protects Lake George. Grant funds will be used to strengthen the LGLC’s donor and land database systems, and provide additional technology, field equipment, and services to keep the organization working efficiently and effectively into the future. The need for robust management tools comes at a time when the LGLC is managing a record number of land conservation projects throughout the Lake George watershed, as well as continuing to provide safe recreational resources and quality educational and outreach programming to residents, landowners, and visitors, year-round. The NYSCPP grants, which were announced by Governor Hochul on May 7, are administered by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the Land Trust Alliance, and are supported by the State’s Environmental Protection Fund (EPF). Funding supports projects that protect water quality, prevent farmland conversion, boost public access for outdoor recreation, and conserve open space.

Not an expert but this article is insightful for beginners!!! Link: https://lnkd.in/gddkvMnj From the read: 🌱 For a tree-planting program to succeed, we need good ecological understanding, long-term planning, and follow-ups. 🤼 Focus on community engagement, addressing the underlying cause of deforestation and preventing unintended harms. 🤲 Transparency is a key factor -Encouraging transparency creates a safe space to share experiences, and learning from failure can help influence a culture where sharing data about both successes and failures is encouraged and valued. #forbeginners #treeplanting #reforestation #learningprocess

Massachusetts colleagues! Please consider signing this letter, written by the Massachusetts Pollinator Network, in support of a Municipal Reforestation Bill. If this bill is adopted it will encourage the expansion of the urban tree canopy across Massachusetts will enable us to: - Plant trees and provide jobs for youth in all MA cities and towns, prioritizing Environmental Justice communities - improve public health and climate adaptation and mitigation - increase urban biodiversity and habitat. The letter also includes a proposal to grow native trees from seed in Massachusetts to make more of them available for municipal planting. This would create new jobs, provide trees that are already acclimated to local conditions, and increase climate resilience and biodiversity. https://lnkd.in/eaFHZYw9
