10 years since my first ever race.
Last May 4th marked 10 years since my first ever karting race and here's 3 valuable things I've learnt throughout these last years.
1. Never underestimate competition and/or overestimate yourself: When I arrived to Kartódromo Cuautla that day as a fresh rookie competing against national champions, I felt I was going to be able to fight for a top 5 at least. Reality was very shocking to me when I found out I was well off the pace in last place even though I was giving my absolute best. This severely hurt my expectations and therefore made me want to quit, however, what was happening was completely normal, I just needed more and more laps and experience to be that fast.
2. Don't let yourself be trapped inside the cage: In racing and in life, there will be many times where you don't really know what is going on that makes things not go your way, in moments like this, it is very easy to feel stuck and keep trying the same things expecting different outcomes. Although it is very difficult, going outside and looking for different solutions, talking to people that can help you and thinking different ways around the problem can definitely be a life saver.
3. Fall in love with the game: There will always be a better car setup, a better racing line, lap time, etc. but it won't be easy to find and you'll have to spend many hours and space in your mind to find it, you won't achieve this if you don't love the game, so whatever it is that you do, make sure you love what you do so you can be able to dig deeper every time.
