Last week on #InternationalYouthDay, we celebrate the young changemakers who are propelling us towards a more sustainable world! At Shangri-La Rasa Sayang & Shangri-La Golden Sands, we’re proud to see some of our former management trainees grow into leaders within their respective departments. Amongst them are (from left to right) Zi Xian - Director of Events Management, Aries Boo - Assistant Director of F&B, and Alisa Zaini - Cluster Marketing Manager. Sharing about their passions, they’ve gained a lot of experiences and opportunities which ultimately builds their leadership skills. Dedicated to continuously learning new things, challenging the status quo, fostering strong partnerships and leveraging the collective expertise each of them have to drive business goals and their professional career development as well as personal growth.    Additionally, their aspirations for the brand include the unwavering support by the brand to younger individuals in becoming inspiring leaders in the hospitality industry by fostering their growth, honing their skills, and expanding their knowledge. All whilst hosting people to the colourful joys of life in a sustainable manner.   When asked for advice to younger generations, the three leaders shared a common piece of wisdom: to approach life as a perpetual student and to never stop learning. By embracing a continuous mindset, one can navigate the ever-evolving landscape of the industry and world with confidence and adaptability, ultimately enhancing personal and professional growth. By nurturing the ideas and passions of these young individuals, we are shaping a greener, more mindful future for the hospitality industry. I am thrilled by the stunning landscape at the Sama Sama Hotel in KLIA, Malaysia, where I facilitate a leadership development program. I couldn't help but express my appreciation to Hari, one of the managers, for the exceptional work of the landscape team. Within minutes, Hari introduced me to Krishna, one of the dedicated gardeners. Listening to Krishna share his team's efforts in crafting such an environment was genuinely inspiring. Clearly, the hotel's beauty isn't just by chance; it's the result of passion and commitment. This experience highlighted something crucial: the power of appreciation. When Hari acknowledged his team's hard work, it wasn't just a pat on the back. It was a testament to how recognizing employees' contributions can fuel their enthusiasm and dedication. My key takeaway: Let's make appreciation a daily habit. It's not just about saying 'thank you.' It's about truly seeing and valuing the efforts of those around us. Thanks to Maybank for organizing the Johor Singapore Access event, I had an enjoyable time learning about the opportunities in Johor's property and business landscape and food! In the panel, I shared that JS-SEZ highlighted the importance for SMEs to look overseas, not just for market access, but also for cost optimization and talent access. It also emphasized the need for our workforce to adopt a regional perspective of our market and underscored the leadership opportunities available. This broader outlook is crucial now more than ever for the growth and adaptation of SMEs and our workforce.
