(It's not paranoia). VERY surprised not to see Neurosurgery on this list. Perhaps they don't have time to read and respond to Medscape surveys.....

Finding the best doctor???!!! Long long time ago , an old man was sick, he needed the best doctor in town to treat him. Else he would not make it. He send his son in search of the best doctor in town. Now this town was peculiar, in front of every medical man’s house there candles burning 24/7, each candle for the patient who died under their care. Now he went around and in front of each doctors house there were hundreds of candles. So he roamed around and finally found a doc with one candle. He immediately caught hold of him and took him home. As you expected, he treated the old man and he died in a few hours. The son was perplexed, he asked “ Of all, you had the lowest number of candles and how come this result?” The young doctor wryly replied “ I just started practice yesterday”. 🤭 Look behind the commonly advertised surgical metrics (numbers, awards, degrees, etc). Factors like complexity of cases and the results in terms of long term results, ethics, team strength etc make more sense. 🤔 To be a good surgeon, it takes years of hardwork and a lot of dedication but to be the best surgeon, all you have to do is just say you are the best surgeon. 😛 Society of thoracic surgeons (STS) has a public reporting site which is a a good model #medicalexcellence #medicalethics #congenitalheartdisease

Dear Colleagues, A recent publication in Medical Science Monitor sheds light on the importance of timely diagnosis and treatment for lateral condyle fractures of the humerus in children. This retrospective study compared outcomes in 140 patients and found that early treatment led to better results, with significantly different incision sizes and Mayo Elbow Performance Scores. The study also highlighted the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasizing the need for maintaining standardized fracture management during challenging times. The findings offer practical insights for pediatric orthopedic departments worldwide. Chief Medical Editor Dwight Akerman, OD, MBA broke down the findings from a recent study that explored the rebound effect after cessation of optical interventions for myopia control. He wrote: "The systematic review revealed a predominant strong rebound effect in orthokeratology (eight studies), a weak rebound effect in multifocal soft contact lenses (four studies), and a variable rebound effect in peripheral-plus spectacle lenses (two studies). "Notably, with the increasing cessation duration, the rebound effects diminished, potentially linked to the reversal of choroidal thickening and the disappearance of peripheral myopic defocus."
