I've got a bee in my bonnet about a common LinkedIn post... The ones where someone lists out all the things they want to stop hearing from their employees... you know the ones. My issue is, culture doesn't change from LinkedIn posts, culture changes from within. It takes time and effort internally and needs to come from the top. Your employees care about what happens daily, not what comes across their LI feed. So here's some things you will never overhear at NewGen 🤐 ⏰ "Can I leave early today?" We have flexi hours (and they actually work) 🌅 "I'll be late in the morning" See above 👶 "My child is sick can I rush off?" Our environment allows people to speak up and flag issues, and gives our employees the time and space they need for whatever is going on in their lives 🙅♂️ "That's not my job" We foster an environment of collaboration where everyone cares about a common goal 😭 "I can't do this" We help each other out, no one is alone in their task 🌴 "I don't have time to take my holiday" We have a use it or lose it holiday policy and a mandatory 2 week reseat every year, ensuring all employees take the time and space they need to recharge Sound good to you? A few months ago, I was thrilled to secure a remote job in the ed tech industry. However, as I carefully read the terms and conditions of the offer, one clause caught my attention: "If you leave the company for any reason, you will compensate the company." While I understand the importance of companies wanting to retain talent, the idea of compensating the company for choosing a different path raised questions in my mind. Employment is a two-way street – employers seek the best fit for their team, and employees seek an environment that aligns with their values and career goals. Every individual should have the freedom to make choices that benefit their personal and professional growth. A healthy work culture and mutual respect between employer and employee contribute significantly to long-term success.
