Full steam ahead! CN's $200,000 donation has put us on track to double the impact of our MISSION POSSIBLE campaign! We’re honoured to announce that this iconic Canadian brand is now an Official National Partner of Team Rubicon Canada. Earlier this year, CN pledged $10 million (CAD) over ten years to support disaster relief initiatives across North America, underscoring CN’s commitment to assisting communities affected by natural disasters and the impacts of climate change. “Our railroaders have an incredible privilege to travel across North America’s vast landscapes and experience its beauty. It also means they have a unique viewpoint on the devastating effects of climate change and the incredible challenges that communities face as a result of extreme weather events such as floods, wildfires and storms. By working together, we can build resilience and make sure that people have the support, resources, and supplies they need when disaster strikes.” - Olivier Chouc, Senior Vice-President and Chief Legal Officer at CN CN’s generous commitment will bolster Team Rubicon Canada’s capacity to serve vulnerable communities in times of crisis. In addition to financial support, many of CN’s employees and retirees are donning Greyshirts and getting onto the ground as volunteers – donating their time and sweat. We’re excited to have Olivier Chouc climbing aboard as a Team Rubicon Canada Greyshirt! Thank you, CN, for helping to make our MISSION POSSIBLE. With CN as a matching partner, every dollar raised during the final two weeks of our MISSION POSSIBLE campaign will be doubled up to $200,000. Donate now to double your impact. https://bit.ly/4bfTqOg

Green Builders: Join the Movement to Rebuild Western North Carolina Sustainably In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, communities across Western North Carolina are facing devastating losses. As we come together to support the recovery, it’s vital that we consider the long-term impacts of how we rebuild, focusing on sustainable and green practices. With climate change continuing to fuel extreme weather events like this, rebuilding with resilience and environmental responsibility is not just an option, it’s a necessity. If you or your team is interested in lending support through your expertise, resources, or services, I’d love to connect and explore ways we can help these communities recover in a way that aligns with the values of sustainability. Feel free to reach out to schedule a time to talk about how you can contribute, or to learn more about direct involvement. Together, we can ensure the future we build is greener and more resilient. For those looking to provide immediate relief, we’ve also set up a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for emergency supplies. Your support, or even just sharing the link, would mean a lot to those affected. https://gofund.me/7077925c

As disasters—natural or manmade—occur with increasing frequency and scale, it is an important time to reflect and consider how philanthropy can help communities prepare for more coordinated responses to unforeseen disasters. Philanthropy is uniquely positioned to help communities quickly respond in immediate relief and recovery stages of disaster relief. They can bring together and build relationships among funders and cross-sector stakeholders, leverage experience working in different sectors and on a wide variety of social issues, and quickly provide funding with fewer restrictions than a typical grant process, buying time for government support and the development of long-term recovery and preparedness strategies. Community foundations are often at the center of disaster relief efforts, whether as the sole administrator and leader of a fund or as the backbone organization in a partnership effort. https://lnkd.in/gXcxdeqg

GoFundMe has started a new initiative called Weather Resilience Fund! This fund aims to help disaster prone communities become better prepared for, and can adapt to, increasingly intense weather conditions and weather-fueled natural disasters. Recently, we’ve seen multiple states hit with extreme weather (I.e. the mighty Arkansas Tornado, the massive flood in Texas, the random earthquake in New Jersey) all possibly costing families thousands in damage. In Axios Finish Line, Erica Pandey points out that in the 1980s there was an 82-day interval between billion-dollar disasters. In 2023, it was just 12 days. With the slow pace of government assistance, families are relying on friends, neighbors, and even strangers to help. Additionally, over the past five years, there has been a 90% increase in fundraisers for natural disasters on GoFundMe. In June, GoFundMe’s pilot program will start in California to distribute energy solutions and resources to households in these communities – help them withstand and adapt to dangerous weather conditions, given the extreme heat and poor air quality that impact these communities.
