I still have #PTSD from getting shot in my 20s and years of abuse as a teen. But I had no idea how prevalent #trauma is in the US.
70% of adults in the U.S. have experienced some type of traumatic event at least once in their lives, and 5% suffer from PTSD at any point.
Psychological trauma has risen over the past few years because of the #pandemic. A national report released in 2023 by the American Psychological Association found Americans are still struggling with the collective trauma of COVID. This is due to the loss of more than one million Americans, shifting priorities at work, school, and culture, as well as increased financial pressures for families.
Over the past year, there has been an increased focus on trauma, resilience, and trauma-informed care. Here’s a few examples:
California is pairing trained volunteers with #victims and their families within the first few hours following a tragedy. The service provider will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (including holidays) to send volunteers to assist sheriff deputies, police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and hospital personnel with various support services.
Colorado engages Peer Support Specialists with lived experience to help patients with guidance, reassurance, and encouragement through trauma-informed care.
Connecticut works collaboratively to provide #communitymentalhealth programs to eliminate barriers to access to resources and provide dignity to residents experiencing housing instability and #homelessness.
Dozens more states from Arizona to Wyoming are also taking initial steps toward trauma-informed care. All this activity is encouraging and cuts across party lines. It’s a trend to watch.

3moResources are available, but the first step is a "muther". Recognizing & admiting you may need a helping hand & there is "no shame" in being human & seeking help. There are enough "Band of Brothers" who understand the "fog of experience" & NO SHAME in seeking help..Vets are the world's biggest fraternity and sorority.
