According to NationSwell, the percent of total U.S. volunteer hours completed by adults 65+ has increased from 18.5% in 2002 to 28.6% in 2021.
This tells us that not only are seniors actively committed to serving their communities, but they're becoming more and more involved with each passing year.

Silly, are you a senior citizen and are you proud? Oh hell yeah, I'm proud and good to go. My Team Rubicon shirt, I can do anything. I am man. Shout out to Hertz. But the real thing is, do you have any book recommendations for the younger folks? Anything you know nearby that you've been reading, that you've been really struck by? Can you read? A handbook for engaged couples. Wonderful things I can still do. I'm amazed. I never thought I'd 75 when I was 35. I'd still be doing. Physical activity like this. Yeah. And and riding my bicycle lock. Do what you want to do Do do you want to town there? Let's get funky. Get into the rhythm. Let's get funky. Keep going. Don't let the old man in. If you're a company looking to make an impact within your local community by leveraging your employees' desire to use volunteer time, make sure it is worthwhile for both them AND the organization you are helping. If it is just two hours, please, PLEASE reconsider your time commitment!
As an organizer on projects such as these, I can tell you that the first 30 to 45 minutes a company volunteer day is spent just herding the cats, introductions, going over safety instructions, and doing photo ops. If that leaves just 75 to 90 minutes to actually work, your company's staff won't feel like it was worth their time. The employees WANT to get their hands dirty! They WANT to do something that isn't looking at spreadsheets or emails! And most of all, they WANT to know that when they leave later that day, they can say they made a difference.
