The Phases of First-Year Teaching were identified by Ellen Moir, founder of New Teacher Center and FuelEd Advisory Board member. In October and through into December of their first year, many new teachers enter a phase known as disillusionment. The anticipation of starting a new teaching career and the battle to survive the first months in the classroom is now over. Disillusionment sets in with the realization of how difficult teaching and meeting the needs of all students can be. It is critical that districts assist new teachers and ease their transition from student teacher to full-time professional. Fortunately, the Phases of First Year Teaching provides a useful framework for the development of appropriate, timely support and resources for new teachers. This fall, we encourage you to tell your new teachers about these Phases. It lets them know they are not alone in their experience but on a journey. Attorney @ Vogel Law Firm | Elder Law, Asset Protection, Estate Planning, Stewardship. Classical Education supporter.
Today is an exciting day. A little more than a year ago, the small classical school that I had the pleasure of serving announced it would cease operations. It was a tough call, but the right one. There was no one decision, event, or person that lead to its closure. Several decisions that didn't work out, some decisions that weren't made, and a tough market were all contributors. The months leading up to the decisions were quite positive and exciting, we felt momentum, but we also knew a significant change would have to be made. We believed that the school would need to adopt a cottage school (less than 5 days a week) option or shift to only offering that. There just wasn't enough gas in the tank to make the change, and tough decisions had to be made. In the middle we asked, what was the purpose of all the planning for a cottage school? The day the school announced it was closing a small group of parents and teachers began discussing how they could continue to do school together. Out of those conversations, The Oaks Classical Cottage School was born. It's the first cottage style school in our region. Tonight, our head of school will give a state of the school report that will share the details of how the year has gone so very well. Healthy financials, engaging faculty, a collaborative and fun board, and enrollment that is proof positive that there's a market for a school that teaches truth and values the family here in the river region. And me? Well, I get to be the lawyer in downtown USA, helping folks make decisions that impact the future of their loved ones, something I've always dreamed of doing. Going through a rough patch? Something far better is on the other side. #headofschool #classicalchristian #cottageschool #classicalschool

What's in your state's literacy plan? 👉 Today, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) approved a Comprehensive Literacy Plan which features The Language Literacy Network (Wasowicz, 2021)! “The LLN clearly shows how encoding (spelling) and decoding (reading) are distinct yet interrelated processes. Effective spelling instruction helps bridge the gap for students to become proficient readers and writers, especially for those who can read well but struggle with text transcription for fluent writing.” p. 30 Illinois Comprehensive Literacy Plan We here at SPELL-Links | Learning By Design applaud ISBE for enacting “a roadmap to enhance and unify core literacy instruction efforts statewide...ensuring all student receive developmentally appropriate and evidence-based literacy instruction”. p. 8 Illinois Comprehensive Literacy Plan Illinois Comprehensive Literacy Plan (isbe.net)

I received an interesting email from the organizers at the Lilly Conference Series (Todd Zakrajsek) about "Ungrading" in Higher Ed. The last paragraph was of particular interest: "The concept of ungrading is an essential, solid approach that can be taken to honor Social Work core values of service, the importance of human relationships, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, integrity, and competence starting in social work education and continuing on into practice." It has me wondering if the California Association of School-University Partnerships (Keith Derrick) might find such topics of interest as they seek to support effective K-12 teaching strategies being promoted by Higher Ed communities. https://lnkd.in/eBgV2NJZ

Closing the Gap One of the most pressing issues facing the American education system is the achievement gap between special education students and their peers. One important approach for addressing these challenges is to focus on early intervention and support in the classroom. Additionally, it is important to ensure that special education students are included in mainstream classrooms and have access to the same resources and opportunities as their peers. Another important factor is ensuring that teachers are properly trained and supported in working with special education students. This means providing ongoing professional development opportunities. This can be a daunting task…but it doesn’t have to be! At GSEA, we have an abundance of tools and resources to help you build the bridge over that gap. Imagine a world where every school had exactly what they needed to foster success across their entire student population! That IS POSSIBLE when you partner with Global Special Education Associates! Excited yet?!! 😲😲😲 Don’t wait to schedule your program review!! https://lnkd.in/eu7XBuiG 317-384-8051 https://lnkd.in/gTxwcaiF

Listen up folks, because there’s a new schoolyard showdown brewing! In one corner, we have overworked, under-appreciated teachers. In the other? Parents...being trained to be...nuisances! Big ups to our truth-telling trio, Christopher Stewart, Sharif El-Mekki and Ismael Jimenez, for blowing the whistle on this one! Apparently, there’s a whole training program out there teaching parents to fight everything from homework policies to standardized tests. We’re all for advocating for our kids, but this ain’t the way! Schools are already facing a million challenges.Budget cuts, teacher shortages, you name it! Do they really need parents coming in with torches and pitchforks? The answer is a HELL NO! Parents AND teachers working TOGETHER! Open communication, mutual respect, and a shared goal of student success - that’s the winning formula! So, let’s rewrite the script on this parent-teacher showdown. Let’s focus on collaboration, not confrontation. #EducationForAll #PartnersInLearning #SupportOurTeachers #EmpowerParents #CommunicationIsKey #BuildingBridgesNotWalls #StopTheParentNuisanceTraining #SchoolNeedsPeace #TeamUpForSuccess #freedomfriday #citizenstewart #educationequity #educationequality https://lnkd.in/eASV5KMj
