There are over 14 million Disabled people in the UK. We want to see the government make changes to a more inclusive society, where the Disabled community's voice matters and we feel connected and valued. We are asking the next UK Government to make changes based on the Disabled Peoples Manifesto: 1️⃣ Representation and Voice: Nothing about us without us. We demand a voice in decisions that impact us. 2️⃣ Rights: Equal rights for all, ensuring fairness and justice. 3️⃣ Independence: Control over our lives and choices, just like everyone else. 4️⃣ Inclusion: Equal citizenship, where every individual is valued and included in society. How can we become better allies at work? We asked disabled people what non-disabled people could do to be a good ally. If you’re not sure where to start, here are some suggestions. 1. Listen to disabled people. First and foremost, listen to disabled people. Avoid assumptions, and never finish someone else's sentences. 2. Remember that not all impairments and conditions are visible. And some change. You may not be able to see them, but they’re still there. 3. Think about your language. Don’t use ableist words like ‘lame’, and call these out when you hear them. 4: Be more inclusive. Champion accessibility and inclusion. 5. Educate yourself. 5 ways to be a good ally to our disabled colleagues and friends 💪

The report showcases examples of effective practices for gender-responsive and disability-inclusive support and care systems. “Manifesto for Inclusion” for the General Election 2024: Ask 2: Disabled people should receive more help with fuel costs and those costs must be reduced. The Problem: ➢ Research by disability charity Scope shows that households containing a disabled person tend to have considerably higher fuel bills. ➢ In 2023 research by Consumer Scotland indicated that over half (52%) of Scots disabled people were unable to adequately heat their homes. ➢ It also showed that over 2 out of 3 (68%) Scots disabled people said that the cost of fuel was having an impact on their physical health ➢ Those on PIP/DLA and ADP received only £150 to meet the costs of fuel bills that had virtually doubled. Our Solutions: • No disabled person’s health should be endangered because they cannot afford to heat their home. • Disabled people on key disability benefits should receive additional help with their fuel costs based on what they actually spend. •The UK Government and Ofgem must force the fuel companies to create a “social tariff” that lowers fuel costs for all disabled people on benefits. • The costs that disabled people incur through running medical and social care equipment at home should be met by the NHS.
