Globally, mental health in the workplace is a growing concern. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), depression and anxiety disorders cost the global economy an estimated $1 trillion each year in lost productivity. In the United States alone, the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) reports that nearly one in five adults experience mental illness in a given year, impacting their ability to work effectively. Moreover, a survey by the American Psychological Association (APA) found that workplace stress is a significant factor contributing to mental health issues, with around 65% of Americans citing work as a top source of stress. Additionally, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that employees with depression miss an average of 27 workdays per year, further highlighting the economic impact of mental health challenges in the workplace. Recognizing the importance of addressing mental health concerns, many employers are implementing initiatives such as employee assistance programs (EAPs), mental health training for managers, and flexible work arrangements to support employees' well-being and improve productivity. However, there is still a need for greater awareness, education, and destigmatization of mental health issues in the workplace to create a more supportive and inclusive environment for all employees. With a desire to make an impact and change lives, Josh Painter, Bobbie Dyer, Justin Snyder, and Joshua Adams partnered to create a film that visually told the story of mental health in America."Breakthrough" takes viewers on an emotional journey through the complexities of mental health. Through powerful storytelling and intimate interviews, "Breakthrough" offers a raw and authentic portrayal of the human experience with mental illness, highlighting the importance of understanding, compassion, and support.
