Ok I’m now #filmbuff so I won’t go on too much about the, you k’now filmy stuff, there’s people far more qualified to do that 🤣. But the story - wow the story!! I’m also rather clueless about American history so I knew nothing about the #osage people and their story - and again - what a story! From the MANY s’plainers I’ve watched, I believe #martinscorsese did a good job of truthful representation. What this community went through was awful! People have called it ‘silent genocide’ SPOILER ALERT 🚨 (if you don’t know much about it) I can’t believe they couldn’t even control their own wealth. True what they said it out a target on their backs. I had to Goggle so many things while watching this, more because of my lack of knowledge and I’ve actually watched it twice with my incessant rewinding because I’m on my phone. It’s one of those films where I’ve gone down rabbit holes finding out more. The only thing I didn’t like or understand was the ending. I felt like they ran out of time! Or was it supposed be as unsatisfying or unjust as the ending in real life - they never got any REAL justice. The average person will watch more than 78,000 hours of TV in their lifetime. Entertainment has a huge impact on our lives, and who tells the stories we watch shapes our views. As we celebrate the success of the Barbie movie of 2023, the entertainment industry is still far from being equal. 🎥 Of the top 100 grossing films in 2023, only 14 were by women. 🎥 In 2023, only four of the top films were directed by women of color. And in terms of ethnic diversity, just 26 of the 116 directors came from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups. 🎥 In 2021, 26.9 percent of directors hired by Netflix were women, a figure that significantly outpaced any major film distributor. "And if all of that is also true for a doll just representing women, then I don't even know!" When the movie Barbie, by director Greta Gerwig, was set to release, I didn't want to go. I never liked how the barbie doll was setting really wrong standards for women and hadn't even watched the trailer. But, when a friend booked tickets for Oppenheimer and Barbie in the cinema hall, I couldn't resist. (just my love for cinema halls & the experience of a big screen) Here's why every single person who wants to be a filmmaker must watch this film: 1. Humour: It's not too preachy with the humour, not too cheesy, just funny! But, humour needs to have multiple layers to be really considered good. Some of it, you might need to pause and listen to again, because it was too quick and too intense to get in the first go..... 2. Script to Screen: The script is very well written, and the director has done a brilliant job to not take away from - but add more depth to the script through her direction. 3. Perspective: It's written by a woman, directed by a woman. Every filmmaker must learn the power of representation. When you see the world from the eyes of someone who isn't you, you add depth and perspective - and dyou add interesting elements that makes your film - good. 4. It was a commercial hit, despite the odds: A filmmaker needs to learn how to make a film, but also achieve an important aspect - reach. If your film can reach an audience, then the right people. will appreciate your film and pass it on to more of your target audience. I love the film thoroughly, not only because of the above facts, but also because every time I watch a small clip from this film, I want to watch the film again!
