Last month marked my 6th year at Kendra Scott, and it’s hard to put into words how grateful I am for my time here. This year, I became the Co-Chair of our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging Council and finally met Kendra! Two things that have been on my bucketlist for years! To celebrate, here are 6 things I’ve learned from my time at Kendra Scott: 1. Despite what you may have heard, women actually want and are meant to work together! 2. Prioritizing belonging isn't just a "nice to have"; it's essential for creating a workplace that employees are proud to brag about. 3. A nonlinear career can provide a diverse skill set and enriching life experiences, opening doors to unexpected and rewarding opportunities. 4. Great leaders see possibility in their teams and inspire their people to innovate without fear! 5. We all have an innate desire to help others and should leverage our positions to improve our corners of the world. 6. Be like the Boss: Like Kendra, lead with heart and see the person behind every interaction. I can’t help but to feel that there’s so much more for me to learn and I’m looking forward to every lesson! Yesterday at the Advertising Association, ISBA and IPA (Institute of Practitioners in Advertising)’s LEAD event where industry leaders discuss key issues, trends, and innovations shaping the advertising landscape, our very own Verica Djurdjevic, Chief Revenue Office of Channel 4 Sales, delivered an impassioned call to action for the advertising industry.   Referring to The Channel 4 Diversity in Advertising Award which recognises and celebrates outstanding campaigns that promote #diversity and #inclusion within the advertising industry, she stated:   “I would like to offer a call to arms. In 2022, #disability was the theme of our Diversity In Advertising Award. It was in fact the first time we had revisited a theme in the initiative; we had run disability as the theme in 2016 when Maltesers were the winners. Things need to keep moving forward and we ask everyone in this room to be bold and to think about the fundamental commercial truth here. Great storytelling, with brilliant representation and portrayal drives great business results.”   The whole industry needs to step up and help drive representation for the underrepresented. Introducing the Creative Excellence Award 🏆 This award celebrates an exceptional campaign (within the last 18 months) with outstanding creative work that champions diversity and communicates powerful messages of inclusion and authenticity. The campaign demonstrates a commitment to authentic portrayal and representation of underrepresented groups.    We are looking for entries that showcase the ability to seamlessly integrate diversity and inclusion into their creative campaigns. This includes the ability to authentically represent diverse groups and incorporate different points of view, encouraging authentic representation through advertising.   Applicants should consider the following questions when submitting their entry: ✨ What was the brief that inspired the creative work? ✨ What research was conducted as a foundation for the brief? ✨ What was the campaign plan, including timings and targeted audience? ✨ How was the response to the campaign measured? ✨ Was there any research conducted post-campaign to assess the impact?   We are seeking entries that go above and beyond to push the boundaries of creativity while highlighting and celebrating the diversity within our society. An experience like no other 🥹✨ A huge thank you to The Women's Association, McCann London, and Digitas UK for selecting me to be a part of this life-changing trip. As a young, neurodiverse Black founder from Newham, this opportunity meant the world to me 🧡 Attending the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, with most of my expenses covered, gave me access to panels, places, and people that I wouldn’t have been able to reach otherwise. It was a chance to learn, connect, and grow in ways that continue to shape my journey as a founder 🌱💡 I left Cannes with a renewed sense of purpose, a revitalised spirit, and an even deeper drive to help brands build authentic relationships with their consumers, particularly those from diverse backgrounds 🌍 It’s now a must-attend for me moving forward, and I’d love the chance to be there again next year—this time as a speaker (God willing) 🎤 If you’re planning any talks on neurodiversity or strategies for engaging with Gen Z or the "culture" I’d love to be considered. My experience as a member of the Gen Z audience occupying the spaces brands seek to enter and working with talent gives me a fresh perspective on how brands can authentically connect with this demographic. ELF commissioned research that showed there are more Dicks (people called Richard, Rick, Dickie) than there are Hispanic women on Boards in Corporate America. Let that sink in 😮 ELF are calling for companies to acknowledge the work still to be done and collaborate to make meaningful commitments and ‘change the board game’. As one of the highest growth global companies, ELF stand as a beacon for what diverse board representation and diversity of experiences in leadership can achieve in real terms for business growth. Their board is made up of 2/3rds women and 1/3 of the board identify as from diverse backgrounds. And they are delivering, on an incredible scale.
