Are you interested in moving into a Chief of Staff role but your company doesn't use the title? Here is what you can do. Pick a title below based on the body of work you'll be doing AND your company's likeliness to adopt it: executive business executive operations executive planning executive support business planning business programs business operations business support business process business process improvement strategy & operations strategic projects & initiatives strategic partner special assistant to the... special programs tech transformation transformational business (👆 All of these titles are from actual people in Chief of Staff roles.) Next, complete the title by combining it with the level of the role you're aspiring to AND what makes sense based on your company and your experience: Support Junior Partner Associate Senior Manager Director VP Finally, DEFINE the role. Do your research! There are lots of job descriptions out there with varying levels and responsibilities across many, many industries. No two Chief of Staff roles are alike. Build the role you want and don't let the exact "chief of staff" title hold you back from doing the work you want to do AND the work that you know will have a big impact on the team you're supporting. *In the comments: Which title would you choose? Are you in a non-CoS titled role doing CoS work? Tell us! ♻️ Repost to spread the word and follow for more Chief of Staff content. #chiefofstaff -Maggie Olson, Founder Nova Chief of Staff

#Communications and #marketing are not auxiliary functions. They're essential business functions just like operations, finance, or HR. I'm covinced that this is the central misunderstanding of many business leaders when it comes to comms and marketing. 🔍 Like any other department, there are service and production aspects to the communications role. But communications is *not* fundamentally an internal service department. 🙅♂️ When hiring a comms team or director, hire them to be the strategic internal truth-tellers and leader(s) in how your organization moves and communicates. If you're not willing to make that jump, don't hire a communications director.

“What is an O-P-S manager? And do I need one?” someone asked me last week. The woman asking me is a self-employed esthetician. She has had her own business for 3 years now and doesn’t have any employees, nor does she plan on it soon. I briefly explained my role, as this was over text, and I shared my own perspective. If I were her and was running out of time, getting behind on purchasing, admin, and strategic planning time, while still treating clients herself; I would opt for a Personal or Executive Assistant to help buy back her time on backend tasks but still deliver the highest client care and level of service. If I were her and had 2 or more estheticians, needing to step away from day-to-day operations, no longer treating clients, and needed someone to support with recruiting, hiring, and managing the business, I’d hire an Operations Manager. What other criteria would you have to hiring an Operations Manager? I’m curious to hear from business owners. #businessoperations #leadership #sales #b2csales #b2cmarketing #peoplemanagement #recruiting #sales #salescoaching #salesmanagement #privatepractice #operations #operationsmanager #hiring #hiringnow #sandiego #chulavista #southbay #administrativeassistant #job #jobs #apply #physicaltherapy #smallbusiness #smalltomediumbusiness #scale #scaling

Founder & CEO @ Nova Chief of Staff | Acclaimed Fortune 40 CoS to President | First-of-its-kind Chief of Staff Certification Course | C-Suite Leadership Speaker | Building Confidence Around the Globe 🌎
Unsure if you should be hiring a Chief of Staff or Chief Operations role? Here are a few differentiators: A CoS works on behalf of the LEADER. a COO works on behalf of the COMPANY. A CoS leads, organizes, and prioritizes the LEADER'S business initiatives. A COO has their OWN scorecard and deliverables. A CoS (like the EA) exists to support the leader. A COO exists to support the health of the business. A CoS oversees their leader's back office and exec. team ops. A COO oversees COMPANY operations. 📝 Head over to Nova's Blog to dive deeper into CoS vs. CoS... and check out the chart below for a simplified way to figure out who you should *really* be hiring! #chiefofstaff #operations #hiring

Helping businesses optimize resources through strategic planning, program execution and team engagement
"What exactly is a Chief of Staff?" Maybe... a supped-up executive assistant? We work closely together to support the team, but not necessarily in the same way. To me, simply put: A Chief of Staff is an individual who wears many hats, kind of like a Swiss Army knife for the team. However, no one Chief of Staff role is the same. Picture this: I'm your strategic adviser, helping navigate the twists and turns of our game plan. Then, I jump in as the gap filler, supporting the execution of both the expected and unexpected. And of course, I'm the dot connector, weaving together ideas, people, and resources to create magic. But hey, at the end of the day, I'm a generalist who thrives on making the impossible possible, so our team can continue to do what they love! For those who are, have worked with, or have been a Chief of Staff, does this resonate? I'm eager to hear your thoughts and experiences below! #ChiefOfStaffLife #MakingMagicHappen
