Other tools and methods your vision care provider might use include: Ophthalmoscopy: Your care provider may only check your eyes using the slit lamp, or they may use an ophthalmoscope for a closer examination of your retina. For ophthalmoscopy, your provider may need to dilate your eyes, i.e. cause your pupils to expand, in order to get a clear view of the deepest parts of your eye. They’ll use eye drops to do this, which will wear off after a few hours. Phoropter/refraction testing: In refraction testing, your provider will ask you to look through a device called a phoropter to determine the right corrective lens prescription for your vision. You’ll look at a target while your provider places lens options in front of your eyes and asks you which is better. 👁️✨ World Sight Day: Protect Your Vision, Protect Your Future! This October 10th, we celebrate World Sight Day with a theme focused on children—because, let's face it, everyone is someone's child anyway! This year’s theme is “Children, Love Your Eyes.” Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, or just a big kid at heart, it’s time to put on our superhero capes and commit to eye care for all ages. With 2.2 billion people facing vision impairment, it’s more important than ever to keep our sight sharp—after all, a brighter future starts with clear vision! Here’s a quick guide to keep your vision as sharp as your wit: 1. Get Regular Eye Exams: Even if you think you’re a hawk, eye exams can catch sneaky issues like glaucoma before they turn into a vision drama! 2. Shield from UV Rays: Channel your inner superhero and wear sunglasses that block 100% of UVA/UVB rays—your eyes will thank you later! 3. Limit Screen Time: Don’t let digital devices strain your eyes. Remember the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Trust this, your eyes will feel the difference! 4. Eat for Your Eyes:Your eyes love a healthy diet as much as you love pizza (well, almost)! 5. Stay Active: Physical activity and overall health are linked to eye health. Conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure can lead to serious eye complications. Regular exercise and managing these conditions can prevent or slow vision loss. 6. Stay Informed About Eye Health Conditions 📚 : Be aware of symptoms like blurred vision, flashes of light, or eye pain. Seek medical attention immediately if these occur, as early intervention can save your sight. Your eyes are your window to the world, and caring for them should be a priority This World Sight Day, let’s spread the word and commit to protecting our vision for the future. 👁️👓💙 #WorldSightDay #EyeHealth #ProtectYourVision #VisionForAll #ChildrenAndVision #American Optometric Association (AOA) #World Health Organization
