At Tones & Colours, we love it when a project lets us push the boundaries of creativity, and our latest collaboration with Colombo Fashion Week (CFW) did just that. Traditionally, CFW hosts two main shows a year—one in the summer and another later in the year. But this time, they wanted to shake things up by finding and showcasing fresh talent from across the country, leading up to their 2025 April show. As part of this evolution, they introduced a new series of smaller events, blending fashion with other elements like music and art. Our role? To create a visually stunning film that highlighted the concept of "new faces" for their next big reveal. The vision was simple yet striking: bring in two emerging models and craft an artistic film that captivates viewers. Instead of following a story-driven narrative, we went full-on artistic, letting the visuals do all the talking. The film started in black and white, with silhouetted figures, slowly introducing colours as the models were gradually revealed. It wasn’t about flash or extravagance—it was about letting the elegance of each shot speak for itself. We embraced two main visual styles: one with classic white backgrounds and silhouetted figures, and the other using low-key silhouettes against black backgrounds, where light outlined the models in a minimalist way. The best part? CFW gave us the creative freedom to experiment and bring our artistic flair to life. The challenge of balancing two distinct lighting techniques while keeping everything visually cohesive was a thrill for the team. Why I love to design…. What is it about design that inspires me to create eyewear and why eyewear anyway? The typical answer would be symmetry. And yes, even if this is a cliché, it’s symmetry in eyewear that is everything with the gentle equilibrium that forms that perfect design. For example lets take the human face…. The complexity of our features, proportions and structure requires eyewear design to enhance and blend. It’s a fine line between enhancing and distracting. Or could that distraction actual be valuable and lighten up your face, much like a decoration or the perfect accessory. Let’s use a great example. Your favourite scarf that’s just the right blue and just the right weave that compliments and aligns with each and every ensemble. You would be so careful to never lose this scarf, as this becomes your dependable accessory that only belongs to you. So this should be the very same for your eyewear. Your dependable accessory that you wear every day and not forgetting the vital function to give you clear vision. Gen Z is tapping into nostalgia once again, but this time, the generation is bringing it to the boardroom. The "office siren" corporate aesthetic is taking over TikTok, but it isn't necessarily new. It blends high-fashion corporate looks with '90s and 2000s vintage charm — fitting for Gen Z, which can't get enough of the Y2K era. "I think this trend is coming back because people are really leaning into their femininity while still being a boss," Elisabeth Kassab, the founder of Stylistcheck, told Business Insider. "That is the best way I can describe it. It's the perfect mix of sexy and work-appropriate."
