Today (June 20) is World Refugee Day. The UN first made this designation in 2000 and 24 years later we continue to recognize the strength and courage of those who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. Thank you for supporting the work of Tapestry Farms as we honor the resilience, strength, and courage of refugees from all over the world who have resettled in the Quad Cities. 🌎

Today is World Refugee Day. Every day, all over the world, people are forced to leave their home country in search of a safer life for themselves and their families. They leave to escape war, persecution and other serious human rights violations. Under the Refugee Quota Programme Aotearoa New Zealand welcomes 1,500 refugees a year. This does not include the hundreds of people in Aotearoa granted refugee status after seeking asylum here or those still waiting to be granted refugee status. Here we have compiled some resources to help you learn more about the experiences of former and current refugees here in Aotearoa, and the unique and significant contributions they make to society. https://lnkd.in/g6666rdj

People will need to be resettled since Gaza will be uninhabitable for 7-10 years to come and Gazans belong there. Displaced Palestinians will have no other option than to temporarily move to Israel. The point is that nobody is waiting for a Palestinian exodus and that the Gazans want to stay where they belong. The only alternative scenario is that part of the displaced Gazans temporarily move to Israel, still their homeland, for example to the West Bank with the (illegal) Jewish settlers moving back to Israel. This will give Palestinian people greater security that they can return after Gaza is rebuilt. The problem is that long-term separating people brings the great risk that new walls will be built and that no peacebuilding takes place. There will be no sustainable peace and a new cycle of violence as long as there is no interaction as equals between the both sides, this is why I propose a "confederation" of autonomous communities spread over the entire territory instead, like in Canaan in the past. Very utopic for now, but maybe a target for the future. www.canaan.community www.pax.ngo

The history of World Refugee Day dates back to December 4, 2000, when the United Nations General Assembly established it to honor the courage, strength, and resilience of refugees around the world. Since then, it has been observed annually on June 20th to raise awareness about the millions of people who are forced to flee their homes due to conflict, persecution, or violence. World Refugee Day serves as a reminder of the importance of supporting refugees and finding solutions to address the root causes of displacement. It is a day to show solidarity with refugees and to advocate for their rights and well-being. How will you stand with refugees today?

Refugee solidarity can be powerful.
No refugee stories are the same. As we get closer to World Refugee Day, we are showing our solidarity with refugees by making space for their stories to be heard. On the blog, you’ll meet Souzan, Willie and Farrah — all refugees from different parts of the world who had to flee their homes out of fear for their lives. We hope reading their stories will stir your heart to action this World Refugee Day. 🔗 https://bit.ly/4aUK75p #refugeeawareness #worldrefugeeday

This week's #Thursdaythought is in honour of World Refugee Day. Each year on 20th June, the world celebrates #WorldRefugeeDay, the international day to honour people who have been forced to flee. By the end of 2024, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) estimates that 130 million people will be forcibly displaced or stateless as a result of persecution, conflict, violence and human rights violations. This day shines a light on the rights, needs and dreams of refugees, helping to mobilise political will and resources so refugees can not only survive but thrive. While it is important to protect and improve the lives of refugees every single day, international days like World Refugee Day help to focus global attention on the plight of those fleeing conflict or persecution. Many activities held on World Refugee Day create opportunities to support refugees. Kakuma Refugee Camp and Kalobeyei Settlement have been mired in turmoil, resulting in numerous fatalities. Youths have suffered grievous injuries from machetes wielded with intent to harm. The pervasive presence of knives and daggers, often carried conspicuously in trousers, underscores a dangerous environment we have failed to adequately address. Where are we heading, and how did this situation escalate to such dire levels? To safeguard and protect the vulnerable, we must urgently adopt comprehensive and proactive measures. We invite you to share your opinions and engage with us in this critical conversation. What measures do you believe are most effective in addressing the violence in these camps? How can we, as a community, contribute to safeguarding the vulnerable? Your insights and suggestions are invaluable as we strive to create a safer environment for everyone. #envisioninghumanity #LetPeacePrevail #Cohesion UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency FilmAid Kenya IOM - UN Migration Danish Refugee Council / Dansk Flygtningehjælp Peace Winds Japan, Kenya Mission Ambitious.Africa The Creative Gateway
